"After them!" I heard curse words behind me and kept running,"thieves!" The nice lady we first met shouted.
They were catching up and I told Rick,"up is the last place they'll look,"
We scampered up a tree as always and stayed concealed. I saw a vine and motioned for him to come.
"You said they won't look up," Rick complained.
"I said they look up last," I grabbed the vine and willed it not to break. As quietly as I could, I jumped to the next tree, Rick grumbling but following.
As if on cue, the villagers looked up. It was getting dark and our outfit helped us blend in.
I heard wolves growling and I looked down. Immediately I wished I hadn't. Their jaws were dripping with blood and they were howling like heck.
Rick motioned to hurry up and I found another vine. I made a bit too much noise and the wolves ears perked up. But the villagers didn't hear anything.
They started growling but one saw a bunny in the distance and raced toward it. The villagers thought that's what they were growling at.
Breathing a sigh of relief, I grabbed another vine as Rick followed silently behind.
Soon we went far enough and the villagers left.
"Huh," Rick grumbled when they were out of earshot,"you'd think the Evergreens would have better things than this?"
"Yeah," I agreed,"let's go someplace else tomorrow. One without wolves,"
