Boom!

I awoke to an explosion. I got up startled and almost fell off the branch me and Rick were sleeping in.

"Rick!" I tried to shake him awake,"Rick get up! I think there's a fire!"

2 more explosions came and I looked towards the Evergreen Community.

"This is not good!" I screamed trying to squeeze Rick awake.

I've been terrified of fires since Cameron. Now fireworks made of pure fire spelled DIE

Rick got up and looked around. Then seeing the word, DIE, he packed everything up and I helped get him down from the tree.

We started running.

Torches behind me. Fire. I was motivated. The Evergreens somehow found us.

The wolves must have sniffed out the clothes we wore and found us, I thought.

Grabbing Ricks hand, I made a sharp left and jumped behind a bush. The villagers kept running forward, and I tossed a scrap of clothing there so the wolves would keep going too.

When they were out of sight , I pulled Rick up.

"Let's see those maps," I said, breathing hard, "now,"

We got to a poor small village. "Let's do this differently," Rick told me when we got there.

I was looking for a good tree. "What do you mean?" I looked at him.

"I'm tired of running away," he sat down and I sat next to him on the grass hidden behind trees.

"Let's tell them you ran away from home because your parents died and I met you in the woods after wandering from home. Then we became boyfriend/girlfriend."

I smiled. "Sure," I said. That's a quarter true,"

So we walked to the village and told our story.

"You poor thing!" A woman cried. "Stay with us, won't you."

"Not for long," I said trying my best to look worried." If the nasty ol' caretaker finds me, she'll take me in her custody. And I won't leave Rick."

"But you're old enough to live alone, right?" She asked.

I grabbed Ricks hand and squeezed it,"things are different where we come from,"

"Oh, stay with us for at least a little bit!" She was literally begging us now.
"Ok!" I smiled.
