I wanted to start a new habit, one that I have not been able to stay with. I made it something small, to demonstrate that I could change a habit and use my coffee drinking to reinforce it.
What to pick when there are so many good habits to take on? I read that it is so healthy to start each day wth an 8 ounce glass of water with lemon. So, the next morning, before I reached for my coffee, I set up a glass of water with lemon and drank every drop. Now, I could have my coffee. It seemed easy...no coffee until I drank my lemon water.
Simple. I have kept this habit going for months. Away or at home, no water, no coffee. It works!
Other simple ideas to train your mind might include: always setting the alarm clock and waking up on time, not checking emails/texts/social media until after your coffee, putting together a healthier breakfast...plus all the ideas that have already popped into your head.Recap:
Pick a simple morning habit.
No coffee unless you finish the new habit first.
If you didn't complete your new habit first, you can't have your usual delicious coffee that morning.
Options if you didn't practice your new habit:
You can either deprive your self completely (watch out for caffeine headache and lots of irritability and fogginess) or order/make a coffee in a way you would never order it otherwise (black, no sugar, lots of sugar, different brand or style).
Hopefully, tomorrow morning, you'll remember your new positive habit and have your coffee your favorite way, everyday!
That's it for now.
Develop new habit for one week before adding a new, but more complicated habit.Good luck, enjoy....it really works.
