If you're on this part, congratulations for completing a simple, easy morning habit to your routine. Now, how about adding another habit, one that is a bit more substantial?
As an example, my second habit was to add a daily, morning meditation practice to my day. I tried, on and off, for awhile to meditate regularly but was unable to sustain it. That left me stressed that I wasn't practicing what I believed to be a source of balance, peace and mindfulness to my days.
So, I can now say that I meditate each morning, and to my delight, have kept this practice up for months. Whether home or away, my new habit is secure.
As before, after my lemon water, I start my meditation practice before I can have my morning coffee and that motivation (of a delicious, hot, steaming cup of coffee) is all I needed to make it stick. I began with a few minutes of meditation time and have built up to twenty minutes each morning. Not to push meditation, but it has certainly increased the joy and balance in my days. If I had not meditated, I would have had to forgo the morning cup of coffee or make a substitute. Just the idea of loss kept me on track and there were no slip ups.
So, what is the substantial habit that you wish to begin before your morning coffee? Think of a positive habit, maybe one that that you have tried to incorporate earlier but unsuccessfully. My neighbor has gotten into the habit of making her bed each morning where before it wasn't a thought. The idea of an organized bed makes her feel better when she returns home after a long day. Ideas include adding a morning walk, run or yoga routine more consistently. It doesn't have to be a marathon. It's morning and there's lots to do so a few minutes might be perfect. The choices are endless and individual to you and your fitness level. The addition of a positive habit only makes the day better.Summary
Use the joy of your morning cup of coffee to create a habit or two that can change your day for the better. What could be easier and more beneficial than gaining control of your own behavior with a little help from morning coffee drinking. Would be so curious to know how things have worked out for others.Good luck and enjoy.
