Calum had left his childhood home when he was in his teens. Leaving the place itself hadn't bothered him, what did was leaving Michael, Calum's best friend. The two couldn't be seperated and at one point Calum was sure he loved the boy. But then he had to leave and he had no choice but to shove the feelings away.

And Calum's family left mostly to tear Calum and Michael apart. Calum came from a long line of duty serving men and women. There is not one person in his family that doesn't own a gun. Him now included. Michael was the opposite. It was suspected his family was at the root of every crime in their city and the three boarding it. But Michael wasn't like that. From the first day of school the two had buddied up and then just latched on, much to the disapproval and annoyance of both families. So Calum's had packed him up and carted him away. He didn't even get to say goodbye.

Now it was three years later and Calum is freshly turned twenty two. He followed in the only line set out for him and became a cop after doing two tours in the army and earning the Hood family name. He was reasonably happy with his two friends, Luke and Ashton, and his family. Even though they snatched Michael away he still had to love them.

"Cal!" Luke yelled out as they bolted after a group of about seven robbers. Luke was gesturing to the left where two of them had peeled off to try their luck. Calum nods and rushes after them. Another cop is at his side, Ashton went with Luke. Naturally. Those two need to just fuck and get it over with.

As they skid round a corner the other cop takes down one of the robbers. With the perp on his stomach and the cop with a knee on his back, reaching for the cuffs Calum leaves them to it.

He's fast. Calum thinks as they round yet another corner. All Calum can see of the guy is dark purple hair, making it pretty easy not to lose him in the crowd. Guy must be cursing himself out now. Calum gets his second wind by the time they're five blocks away from the other cop and puts on a burst of speed.

They skid another corner with Calum closer to the guy now. It's as he's scaling a fence with amazing speed that Calum drags him back down with difficulty. The two wrestle before Calum roughly throws the guy onto the ground, winding him long enough for Calum to get his hands behind his back.

But then the guy turns furious green eyes his way and Calum stares. He knows those eyes. "Mikey?"

Michael blinks, "How d'you know my name?" He demands.

Calum's hold loosens but Michael doesn't make a move to leave. Now he stares at Calum and realsation dawns. Calum just stares at him with his jaw hanging.

Over the past two years Michael had put on a growth spurt and filled out a little so now his shoulders were more broad and his frame more slimmer. He looked, and proved, that he has speed. But it was his face that changed most. There was a light dusting of stubble around his chin and his eyes seemed to have a weight to them. The constant playful gleam had died, now replaced with a cold front.

"What's happened to you?" Calum asks softly.

Michael says nothing as he gaps at Calum, his eyes moving quickly over him from head to toe. Badge to hat. All blue, proof of him being a cop. His silence worries Calum, are they meant to be fighting? He doesn't think he can fight Michael. His ex-best friend. A boy he once thought was the centre of his whole world.

Then he can hear Luke and Ashton yelling his name and they're out of time. Calum is meant to arrest Michael, he knows this, but.....

Making a split second decision he gets off Michael and hisses urgently, "Go, now. Before they get here."

Michael frowns, "What?" His voice is deeper, Calum notes unhelpfully.

"Get up and leave! Now!" Calum commands as Ashton and Luke loom even closer.
