I exhaled the smoke into the air as I stepped on the cigarette butt. I watched as she stumbled over her own feet causing her books to fly to the floor. She fell to the floor landing on her bum. I watched amused as she muttered to herself as she rubbed a sore spot on her bum.
I don't know when exactly I had started noticing her but all I could say was that she was different. She wasn't like the rest of the girls at our school. Her purple dip dyed hair was evidence that she didn't follow the crowd. I walked over to her when I saw that she had already been approached by someone.
"Why don't you come over to my house and you can help me explore the female anatomy," winked Chace.
She hadn't been paying attention to what he'd been saying as she tried to pick up all her stationary that had fallen.
"Hey, I'm talking to you," said a slightly disgruntled Chace as he tried to get her attention. "Tonight my house."
She blinked at him for a few seconds before she broke out into a grin, "Sorry, I'm not very good at Biology." She then went back to picking up her pens and highlighters. Chace look at her confused and scoffed.
"Whatever, wouldn't even be worth my time," he muttered as he walked away without a second glance.
I laughed at her dismissal of Chace and walked up to her.
"Need any help?" I bent down to pick up 'Lolita' and offered to her.
"Thank you," she smiled at me and took the book from my hands. She then began rummaging around in her bag looking for something. "Darn bag" she muttered to herself.
"Do I get a name?" I questioned after waiting for a few minutes for her to say something. She was still too busy looking through her bag to even notice I was still standing near her.
"I don't tell strangers my name," she said as she went back to look through her bag.
"My name's Ashton. But you can call me Ash," I replied.
My eyes wondered over her white summer dress and short denim jacket. She had various different bracelets on her left arm which jangled as she continued to look through her bag. Strands of her hair escaped her braided hair.
"Found it!" She exclaimed in happiness as she pulled out a cherry flavoured lollipop from her bag. She had screamed so loudly a younger student banged his head on his locker. But she was too engrossed in her lollipop to notice. I watched amused as she ripped the wrapper off and hummed in satisfaction as she popped it in her mouth. I stifled a laugh as my mind drifted and thought of something very sexual.
"Bye!" She slung her bag over her shoulder as she went to leave.
"Hey! You never told me your name. Where are you going?" I asked as I watched her walk away.
"I'm leaving," she grinned as she waved at me. She was soon swallowed up by the crowd of students in the hallway and I could no longer see her.
I laughed to myself and shook my head. She was strange like everyone said. As I turned around the opposite way she had gone I noticed a lollipop on the floor. It must have fallen out of her bag when she slung it over her shoulder. I bent down to pick it up and noticed it was another cherry flavoured lollipop. I put it in my pocket and walked to my next class.
She was definitely different.
