Hope you enjoy the new chapter to 'Her' :)

I trudged out of school exhausted. Who decided that Saturday morning detention should even be a thing? I began my walk home grumbling about my undeserved two hour detention. I wanted to get home whilst Mum was still at home so I could have her home made chocolate chip pancakes. Just thinking about them made my mouth water.

I passed the local grocery shop not too far from my house. As I walked past I saw her leaving with a small bag of shopping. She looked slightly pale, almost too pale. She seemed to walk unsteadily as she left the store. I was deciding on whether or not I should ask if she were okay. However, the decision was made for me when she fumbled over her feet and collapsed. I ran over to her when a passer-by crouched down to check on her.

"Is she breathing?" I questioned as I held her in my arms.

"Yes, dear, she seems to be breathing. Should I call the ambulance?" The old lady asked as she held her phone in her hand.

I thought about it for a second before I refused. I decided I'd take her to my house so my Mum could check on her. As she was a doctor I trusted her opinion.

"I don't know if I'm okay with you taking her to your home," said the lady, "how do I know you're not going to hurt her?"

I decided to think on my feet and lied. "She's my girlfriend." After asking me numerous questions, which irritated me, the lady finally let me take her to my house.

I walked quickly to my house as I didn't want to run as I would jostle her about too much as I had her in my arms.

"MUM!" I bellowed as I walked into my house. "MUM, WHERE ARE YOU!?"

"What's wrong?" Mum asked puzzled as she came out of the kitchen holding a spatula. Her eyes widened as she saw I was holding her in my arms. "Who's this? What's happened? Is she okay?"

I climbed up the stairs as I took her into my room and laid her down on my bed. All whilst explaining to my Mum what had happened.

I watched anxiously as Mum checked her pulse and felt her head.

"She's burning up. Go get me a bowl of cold water and a flannel," she ordered.

I ran downstairs and grabbed everything. As I handed her the bowl and flannel I expected to be allowed in the room. However, Mum marched me out of my room.

"I need to undress her in order to cool her down. It wouldn't be right to have you in the room."

I didn't question Mum after she said that. I knew it would be disrespectful to her if I saw her undressed without her permission.

--------------

It had been about half an hour after I had left Mum with her. I had tried to watch the T.V to help me pass the time but after flipping to and from various shows I gave up. I vaguely heard Mum slowly climbing down the stairs and into the kitchen. I went to ask if she was feeling any better when I saw Mum's shoulders shake. She was faced away from the kitchen door but I could see she was hunched over the breakfast bar.

"Mum?" I said softly as Mum turned around to look at me. I was shocked when I saw her eyes were red and she had tears running down her face. "What's wrong?!"

"Ashton," Mum cried out as I pulled her into a hug. I was tall like my Dad so I towered over my Mum who was 5'5. "How could you do that to someone?" I was confused and frightened as Mum began muttering to herself. Combined with her continuous crying I couldn't understand what she was saying.
