Jessica shot me a rude look in the rearview mirror and then glared at Adam.
“Why the heck did you bring her with us? And where are we going?”
Adam cleared his throat. “We’re going to her house to have fun, baby."
Oh, so he'd changed his mind from Jessica's house to my place. Just great. I let out an exasperated snort.
“I was fine walking with Vanessa, so there's no need to drive me there." I wanted to leave the black Mustang so badly...maybe I'd even jump out the window.
“No one is talking to you, you little brat," Jessica sneered at me. "Adam, you'd better make up for this."
I rolled my eyes. I'd never understand what he saw in her- I surely couldn't stand her high-pitched, nasally voice.
"Just take me home so you two can just go to Jessica's house and leave me alone," I growled, taking out my iPod and putting on my headphones. I nodded and mouthed the song's catchy lyrics, and soon enough we were at my house.
After snatching my stuff from the backseat, I nearly stumbled from the Mustang and up the front steps, jamming the house key into the lock. I felt like I was in a horror movie with the killers coming after me. Flinging open the door, I tossed my backpack inside and was tempted beyond belief to lock the door behind me and let Adam and Jessica sit out there and rot. But I knew that Mom and Dad would have my hide if that happened, so I left the door unlocked but closed just the same.
I adjusted my glasses and peeked through the front window. They got out of the car. They started walking to the front door. They got to the topmost step. Adam put his hand on the doorknob. It turned...
I flew up to my bedroom, shut and locked the door, and prayed that they would leave the house- my house!- and leave me the heck alone. Why didn't they go to Jessica's place?! Plopping onto the bed and putting my headphones back on, I took my laptop and checked Facebook, Tumblr, and Twitter.
I crept downstairs to get a snack and then changed my mind, stomping my feet on each step as I made my way to the kitchen. My house, my stairs. Surprised at not seeing the two lovebirds, I didn't complain and ate a bit of hot soup and crackers. I yawned and stretched afterwards, stopping both abruptly when I heard strange noises emanating from the guest room.
This time I chose to keep silent as I avoided all the creaky places on the floor and crept up to the closed door. Muffled sounds and the movement of sheets alerted me to funny business, and I gritted my teeth and threw open the door, just as I heard Jessica scream Adam's name. She was beneath him, and there were clothes and bedding strewn everywhere. They stopped their activity and stared at me, and I sucked air between my teeth and counted to ten.
Then I lost it.
"Get the heck out of my house! I don't care if you are my guest, my crush, or my worst enemy! Get out! You...you desecrate my parents' guest room!" Near tears, I grabbed Adam's arm and yanked him off her- I being the most surprised at my own strength.
Then Adam bent over me, sweat glistening on his nose, and opened his mouth to say something, but I slapped him. I slapped him so hard that my hand tingled, and a red mask slowly crept its way over his face. But he didn't even flinch.
Then the tears burst from my eyes. “You're a heartless jerk! And you make me sick to my stomach!"
But he just laughed, a dark chuckle, and shook his head at me. "Wasn’t it just yesterday you liked me? Now you can't stand me. Well, listen good- I don't give two cents about you. You're just an annoying little pest who can't mind her own business. For three days, this is just as much my house as it is yours. Therefore, I am free to do as I please, including-"
I didn't even bother listening to the rest of his nonsense. I stalked out of the guest room and slammed the door closed behind me. A picture fell off the wall nearby, but I didn't even bother to pick it up. Removing my glasses and wiping the hot, angry tears from my face, I made my way upstairs and flopped on my stomach onto the bed, eventually crying myself to sleep and wishing I'd never met Adam.
