Veil of Shadows

Chapter 9. Dark Prince

"Wolf."

"What...wassat...wait...WHAT?" Wolf jumped up as she heard her name called. She recognized that voice. Shadow. "Now, don't you try to kill me too. Toxic already tried. You're in my dream world."

"Well, what do you want with me?" Wolf asked, crossing her arms. Shadow paused. "Do you trust your fellow Hero Squad members?" He asked. Wolf, startled by the question, replied "With all my heart."

"And do you trust Notch?" He asked, and Wolf answered instantly "Of course I do. He is my King." Shadow shook his head. "He is no King. He is a liar and a tyrant."

"Don't pretend that you are not." Wolf retorted, feeling the need to defend Notch.

Shadow smiled. "Well, it is true that I am not a King. It is true that I may be a liar at times. But my people can all vouch that I am no tyrant. Unlike Notch, I treat my people with respect."

"And Pro is excluded from that?" Wolf asked, having to clench her fists to stop herself from trying to punch him. Shadow closed his eyes. "I turned Pro into a slime hybrid for the greater good of Minecraftia."

"Why do you care? Your only aim is to destroy Notch and take the throne for yourself." Wolf said. Shadow stiffened and slowly turned to face her. "Notch is greedy and cruel and has brought endless suffering. I, am a freedom fighter."

"So you claim. But I do not trust you at all. I will not fall to your mind games."

Shadow turned and clasped his arms behind his back. For a few moments there was silence. "Do you trust Ranger with your life?" He asked, and Wolf, confused, replied "Of course."

Shadow grinned, but Wolf couldn't see it. "Ranger was a good friend of mine a while back." Wolf's eyes widened. "That's a lie!" She shouted, and Shadow turned.

"Do I look as if I aim to give you lies?" He asked quietly. After a second or two, Wolf realized he was telling the truth. Shadow saw her realization, but didn't say anything about it.

"How did you know her? Who are you?" Wolf asked. Shadow replied "As I have said before, I knew her back when she lived in the End...and as for who I am..." He smiled sadly.

"I am Prince Shadow, Son of the Ender Lord."
