Chapter 13. Good As Dead

An unknown figure paced the floor, muttering to himself. Finally, after several minutes of pacing, the figure shouted "Is she here yet?" After a few moments of silence, he went back to pacing.

"I've been here for a while, you know."

The unknown figure jumped at the sound of a voice. Whirling around, he found himself staring into eyes that glowed blood red. "Ah, Wraith. Fashionably late as always." The figure said, smiling.

The one who called herself Wraith didn't return the smile. Instead, she said "Why did you call me here at such a late hour? You do realize that most people would be asleep by now."

It was true. Most people in Minecraftia would have been asleep by then. It was sometime around midnight, and that's all he needed to know. He wasn't about to waste ten minutes trying to find a clock.

"Yes, I know that." The figure said irritably. "But I have a job for you." Immediately, Wraith perked up a bit. "Please describe the job." She said, her voice calculating and cold.

"There are several warriors heading for Shadow's fortress. One of them in particular I want you to take care of. She goes by the name Blaze." The unknown figure said.

Wraith smiled and twirled her twin daggers. "Give me a description and she's as good as dead." The unknown figure paused, then said "She is a hybrid. A blaze hybrid, ironically. She has the power of fire."

Wraith looked at the unknown figure with interest at the mention of hybrid. "A Nether creature hybrid, hm? In that case, maybe she'll put up an acceptable fight. I have been bored around here." A wicked smirk slowly appeared on her face.

"Might be nice to see a fellow Nether creature hybrid though. They're rare these days. I may be able to sneak in a conversation before the fight." She said. The unknown figure replied "Do whatever you want, just make sure she dies."

Wraith raised an eyebrow. "If you pay me to kill her, you can bet your life that she'll be dead. I keep my promises. I'm not a liar." The unknown figure nodded quickly, hoping to avoid a confrontation.

The unknown figure said "You will begin tomorrow. Once your job is done, you will be paid from my personal collection." Wraith asked "How long do I have to finish the job?"

"Five days." The unknown figure replied. Wraith smiled. She spun her daggers once, and they caught the light, reflecting off the cold metal surfaces. They were unbelievably sharp, so sharp that they could probably slice through weak iron.

"I only need one."

The unknown figure raised an eyebrow. "Cocky as ever, I see." Wraith sheathed her daggers and said "It's not cocky. It's confident. Get your facts right, Royal Pain."

The unknown figure stiffened at the name. Wraith smiled slightly. "You know, I rather like that nickname. Perhaps I'll use it more often." The unknown figure would have protested, but he sensed it wasn't worth it.

Arguing with a deadly assassin wasn't something he did on a daily basis.

"Very well." He said. "I have a copy of the route they will be taking." Wraith's brows rose as she saw it. "And how, may I ask, did you get this?" She asked. The unknown figure replied "Because I'm the one that planned it out."

Wraith sighed. "Notch really can't bother to do it himself, can he? The lazy dolt." The unknown figure replied "I wouldn't call him a lazy dolt...though I suppose it couldn't be far off."

The unknown figure added quickly "Oh and, just in case you need it, her weakness is water." Wraith raised an eyebrow. "Thank you, Captain Obvious. She's a Blaze Hybrid. I think I can figure that out."

The unknown figure cleared his throat. "My apologies, then." Wraith paused. "Do you by any chance associate with the owner of the fortress? Shadow, I believe it was?" The unknown figure's eyes quickly filled with hatred.

"No. I hate him. My worst enemy, in fact. He's gotten in the way of several of my schemes in the far past. But no matter. Now, I can steal his thunder. Get rid of Blaze...permanently."

Wraith smirked. "It would be my pleasure."
