Mercy Davis – Diary of a Romantic Teen
Saturday August 21st– 8.32am
Dear Diary,
This is my first entry, and I’ve only decided to start one because I have recently been enlightened. I know now, how to find the love of my life. Yeah, I sound stupid, but I’ve got to try it. It could work.
For the last three years, (three and a bit now, as I'm about to start year ten! Bring it on!) I have been attending an all girls’ school. Because of this, and the fact that I am not often allowed to any parties –fault of my parents-, I hardly know any boys. The few I know I am not in regular contact with, resulting in my current, incredibly depressing, partner-less existence.
I just need a guy that is annoying and/or a player. Preferably funny too. Good-looking, obviously. We may or may not both like each other at first, in fact, bonus points for falling in love with each other afterwards, but we’ll have some sort of chemistry.
You may be wondering why I’m looking for that type of guy. Well, it’s in films all over! And books. I’ve read countless stories from online sites and watched tonnes of movies too, the girl and guy almost never fall for each other straight away, or never show it if they do. It’s simple.
Yeah, I considered the fact that movies purely do this for entertainment purposes, but they must have had a muse, correct? Yes. Ideas didn’t just spring into their heads. They must have felt that way before, experienced similar situations. And so many movies cannot be based on something so false. It could totally work if I planned it out.
I am going to engineer my own relationship!
It’s in loads of self-help books too you know. How I have to take control, I have to get out there because no guy is coming over and knocking on my door! It doesn’t work that way. I’ll just end up a lowly spinster like Ms. Nation next door. She’s this 60-something Canadian who sat waiting for her true love all her life. He never turned up- or that’s what my sister said anyway.
Oh My Gosh.
Of course! I am going to talk to her about this. She is really nice. Not very pretty though. That was probably part of her problem. It won’t be mine. And I know I’m not gorgeous or anything, but neither was Toni Collette from In Her Shoes, and she still got a guy in the end! Always works out.
Okay, so I need to get planning… Here are my ideas:
GET-A-GUY INFO AND PLANS
MOVIE REFERENCES
27 Dresses – Jane (Katherine Heigl) totally hates Kevin//Malcolm Doyle (James Marsden) but ends up marrying the guy and having a beautiful marriage! (I broke down in tears in the movie! Their get together on the boat scene is unbelievably romantic!)
What Happens in Vegas – Cameron Diaz and Ashton Kutcher. He-llo! It was a totally drunken marriage and they hated each other—then look where it got them! Look! They fell in love at the end! See that?!
Valentines Day – OMG, that was THE best movie ever, and each of the characters were linked somehow, much like He’s Just Not That Into You, which is also a favourite of mine. I mean, they are both just so great! The love stories start off one way and end another.
Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging – WHOA! If I got myself a guy from a band that would be my ultimate DREAM. How romantic is that?! And he’d totally write songs about me! I mean, Georgia and Robbie fell out but in the end it was all okay!
