He stormed out of the house leaving me behind. I ran after him but he quickened his pace and hopped in his car. I closed my tear-filled eyes as I heard his car start. As he pulled out I felt a burst of determination. Powered by tears and sadness, I ran after his car until he reached the highway. He stopped his car and I ran over to the window. I banged on the window tears flooding down my face. "Beth you can't fix this no matter how hard you try, I'm sorry I have a bad case of a broken heart. Like any other wound you need to let it heal before you can use it again." He said, his eyes too filling with tears. "Joe you can't do this to me!," I shouted, starting to wail. My legs felt limp, my head spinning, my heart... broken. I felt myself fall. I felt someone lifting me up and whispering something I couldn't quite make out.

I woke up in a hospital bed. I looked over at the waiting chairs. Joe was there. Just looking at him made me feel sad. A small whimper came out of my mouth, and tears pricked at my eyes, threatening to spill out. I clenched my fists not wanting to cry anymore. Joe looked up. You could tell he had been crying too. He mumbled something that I could just about make out. "You fainted Beth...". I looked into his big hazel eyes. "Why did you pick me up?" I asked genuinely curious. "I couldn't leave you in the side of the road." "Oh."

Silence.

Awkward silence.

"I don't want you to leave..." I said practically to myself. He looked into my eyes with a sad look. "I'll be back don't you worry. I'll be back, and when that time comes everything will be fine and fixed okay?" He said giving me a forced smile. His voice wavered. He leant in and kissed my forehead and with that he left.

He left me there.

I began to scream and cry, not caring anymore if anyone heard me. A worried looking nurse came into my room, but I continued to scream and kick. I ripped an IV out of my inner wrist and grabbed my normal clothes. The ones I was wearing on the night my life changed.

I ran into the small bathroom pulling my clothes on hurriedly. When I was dressed I thank the nurse and ran. I ran down corridors, down stairs, around corners, until I finally made it outside. Yet when I got outside I didn't stop. It was as if my feet were taking me somewhere. Somewhere I'd feel safe. I kept running.

I wondered how I got here.
