Monday, 1:32am

Derek sprinted up the steps of the fire escape of Beacon Hills’ only hospital, his heart pounding with nervous energy. Kate was the one attacking people, she had to be. She had a grudge against him because of what he’d done. Somehow, she’d found out about Stiles, and she’d gone after him.

This was not the first time he’d been to the hospital to see Kate. He’d made it a habit to check on her every once in a while, just to assure himself that she hadn’t disappeared.

He slipped into one of the rooms and started down the hallway. The hospital was eerily silent so late at night, but Derek didn’t mind. He walked quickly down the hall and hopped into the elevator. Slamming his finger into the button that would take him to the psych floor, Derek crossed his arms and waited impatiently for the elevator to reach its destination. The pact with the Argents didn’t matter anymore; once he got Kate to confess to the murders, he was within his rights to eliminate her.

The elevator made a loud dinging sound as he reached the floor he wanted, and Derek was out the doors before they finished opening. But the sight that reached him was not the one he had expected. The security desk was completely abandoned, and the door to the ward was hanging off its hinges. Dark smudges of blood stained the floor, and Derek could see the marks from bodies that had been dragged across the tiles.

“Didn’t think I’d see you here again,” said a voice from beyond the door. Derek saw the glow of pale gold eyes from the shadows. “What are you doing here, Derek? Come to teach me a lesson?”

Derek bared his teeth in a snarl. “You murdered wolves that were under my protection, and tried to kill me,” he growled. “How could I ignore that?”

Kate chuckled, stepping over the blood stains and into the hall. She was just as stunning as Derek remembered, but she held no appeal for him now. How could she, when she’d done so much destruction? “You’re just upset because I scratched your little bitch,” she taunted, crossing her arms in front of her. “I was just having a little fun.”

“Stiles is a human,” Derek snapped. “He—“

“I was a human,” Kate snapped back. “But that didn’t stop you from Turning me. How long before you change Stiles into one of your little Betas?”

“Stiles will never be part of my pack,” Derek snarled. “It’s not the life I want for him. He deserves to be human.”

Kate stuck her lower lip out and pouted at him. “Oh, that’s a shame,” she crooned. “Well, if you don’t want him in your pack, I have a vacancy.”

Derek bared his fangs at her, his eyes glowing red. “Stay away from him,” he barked, advancing a step towards Kate. She didn’t even flinch. “Stiles is not part of this.”

Kate tilted her head to the side and smiled. “But Derek,” she said tauntingly. “The bite is a gift.”
