Chapter 2: Noises in the Dark

Luna's POV

Luna got up in her room after reading the latest letter from Ashe only to find that the dress she had set out to wear today was gone. Groaning, she got up and went to her closet and opened it. "Hmm, what to wear?" she said out loud.

"You shouldn't have to decide. They're all the same."

Luna turned around and saw her sister, Annabelle, looking at her with sharp gray eyes. Luna looked at Annabelle and said flatly "They are not all the same." she pulled out two blue dresses and continued "See? This one is darker than the other." Annabelle rolled her eyes and exclaimed "Those are the exact same! How can you tell the difference?!"

Suddenly, the lights in the room went out. Actually, all the lights in the entire city went out. The only lights there were was the faint glow of the people and their charms. "Luna..." Annabelle's voice quavered in the dark "what's going on? This has never happened before in the Within." Annabelle waited for a response but Luna was deathly silent. Luna was scared. Too scared to speak. In all of their history, this had never happened. Was it some kind of bad omen from the stars above? "I don't know Annabelle." Luna heard Annabelle come closer to Luna. She hugged Luna and whispered with a cracking voice "Are the gods angry with us? What have we done?" Luna closed her eyes and thought for a moment.

"They aren't angry with us."

"But..."

"Annabelle, it'll be alright," Luna whispered hugging Annabelle even tighter than before, she couldn't see her sister clearly but there was always a strange presence to her that seemed to always let Luna know where she was. The lights then flickered and came back on. Luna and Annabelle let out a sigh of relief but it wasn't long before Luna looked outside and gasped. The rest of the city was still dark. Annabelle walked outside of Luna's room and called "Luna! Come here!" Luna ran out the door and up to Annabelle who was staring out the window with a look of horror on her face. "What is it, Annabelle? I can't see!" She said in a 'duh' tone. " Luna gazed outside, squinted, and saw with dismay, a human coming from the secret entrance to the Within. "But how?! Only we can go through the entrance!" Annabelle exclaimed with shock. Realization hit Luna like a ton of bricks. "That's why the lights went out. To hide us." Annabelle slowly turned over with terror written all over her face. "But our lights are on." Luna quickly turned her head and saw that the human had begun to walk towards their dome. "Turn off the lights,'' Luna whispered silently

"But how?! The lights never go off."

"Then cover them with something!"

"With what? There isn't anything dark enough!"

"My dresses! Hurry!"

Annabelle then rushed off and came back with a mound of blue dresses. Together, the two sisters covered all the sources of light and once more, the dome faded into the darkness. "What are we going to do about the human?! Should we kill him? There can't be ANYBODY from the outside that can know of our whereabouts." Annabelle asked. Luna bit her lip, she didn't know what to do. "Can you go and find the Council? Tell them exactly what happened." Annabelle nodded and ran off. Luna stared at the human. She didn't know what to do. 'Should I go and chase them out by using my 'mirage'?' she thought to herself 'Or perhaps you shouldn't do that.' a voice flowed into her mind. Luna spun around and saw her cat, Moon sitting on the stool. " Oh, Moon it's just you." she sighed. Moon made an annoyed yowl 'just me?' Luna silently chuckled. "NO" a shout pierced the silence. Luna ran outside no longer caring about the danger that would possibly await her. 'Luna. Why are you running towards the voice? ' Moon asked Luna as she ran alongside her. "That voice, it sounded like Annabelle." Luna gasped as she ran. 'But Luna, it's coming from where the strange man is' Moon yowled and Luna stopped. "Strange.....man?" she whispered. What if Annabelle was caught by that strange man? What if she was taking them away?!I̶ ̶d̶o̶n̶'̶t̶ ̶c̶a̶r̶e̶ ̶,s̶h̶e̶ ̶c̶a̶n̶ ̶f̶e̶n̶d̶ ̶f̶o̶r̶ ̶h̶e̶r̶s̶e̶l̶f̶ "She needs our help Moon we have to help her!" Luna looked at Moon 'I agree. Something must be done or else who will feed me when you are gone?' Luna stared at Moon in confusion then turned around and ran to the strange man. W̶h̶y̶ ̶s̶h̶o̶u̶l̶d̶ ̶I̶ ̶h̶e̶l̶p̶?̶ ̶S̶h̶e̶ ̶g̶o̶t̶ ̶h̶e̶r̶s̶e̶l̶f̶ ̶i̶n̶t̶o̶ ̶t̶h̶i̶s̶ ̶m̶e̶s̶s̶ ̶a̶n̶d̶ ̶s̶h̶e̶ ̶c̶a̶n̶ ̶g̶e̶t̶ ̶o̶u̶t̶ ̶o̶f̶ ̶i̶t̶ ̶h̶e̶r̶s̶e̶l̶f̶.̶ "Moon!" Luna exclaimed as they were running "Annabelle did not get herself into this mess quit saying stuff like that!" Moon stopped in his tracks and hissed at Luna
