Within the Moon

Chapter 4: Gone

Luna had no paper. She had a marker from Ashe, yes, but no paper. So she did the next thing that came to mind and tore off a piece of her dress and wrote one word to send to Ashe. "Let's go, Annabelle, we need to tell Marie's family," Luna said turning to her sister. Annabelle has her arms crossed as she said-oh so very- sarcastically "And what? Tell them that a person just drilled a hole into the moon and-surprise! An evil dude just waltzed in and stole Marie?" Luna blinked. Then blinked again. "....sure. So let's go!" P̶f̶f̶t̶, ̶d̶o̶ ̶I̶ ̶h̶a̶v̶e̶ ̶t̶o̶?̶ Luna turned around and looked at Moon then Annabelle, who was already starting to head off into the town.
Annabelle wasn't looking and ran into someone. Luna stopped and stared at Annabelle, waiting for her to get up. "Oh, uh sorry Annabelle." the person said "It's fine......Leah?" she responded and got up " I have to go....see you later?" Leah looked a bit down when Annabelle said that, but, Luna paid no attention to that, after all, it was none of her concern. As they were running to town, a shadow suddenly appeared out of no where, the siblings stopped and looked behind them. There was no one there. They shrugged it off and continued running to town. Then once more, the shadow appeared again. It grew closer and closer until finally, a strange nerdy looking guy appeared running beside them. "Hi! I'm Leroy! Leroy y'hear?!" W̶h̶o̶'̶s̶ ̶t̶h̶i̶s̶ ̶i̶d̶i̶o̶t̶?̶ "Umm hi?" Luna replied "You're headed to the city right?!" but before the two could respond, Leroy butted in and said "That's splendid! Y'know why?! Because I, Leroy O'sawn, am also headed there!  WAHAHAHAHAHA!" he yelled very loudly. "So what do you do for a living?"..." no response "That's absolutely, positively, splendid! What about me you ask? Well I'm starting a band." he waited for a response from the two but was greeted with silence "I'm thinking of calling it...'Many Directions'!" once again, there was no response "Well there aren't any band members in it besides me but, I KNOW IT'LL BE A SUCCESS!" finally the two arrived at the edge of the city. "That's the edge of the city, isn't it? Well, it was great talking to you. I'll see you then, Y'HEAR?! Have fun in the cityyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy..." Leroy's voice grew quiet as he ran off in the direction he came from, backwards. Annabelle ran around frantically searching for the mother of Marie. Finally, after a while, the two found her looking for her daughters " Anna! Marie! Where are you two?"

"Mrs. Banani!"

"Luna! Annabelle!"

"It's about your daughter, Marie! Humans captured her!"

Mrs. Banani took a step back, "You aren't joking are you?" she let out a nervous laugh but seeing the solemn looks on the two's faces showed her that the two were serious. Luna felt something within her, it wasn't pity for the sobbing mother before her, no, it was... indescribable. M̶a̶y̶b̶e̶ ̶i̶t̶'̶s̶ ̶a̶m̶u̶s̶e̶m̶e̶n̶t̶?̶ "Shut up." Luna muttered silently, h̶e̶h̶.̶.̶.̶t̶h̶i̶s̶ ̶i̶s̶ ̶g̶r̶e̶a̶t̶.̶ "Mrs. Banani, we're so sorry we couldn't help," Annabelle said, hugging the poor mother. "We need to evacuate the city," Luna said suddenly. Annabelle looked up and questioned her "Where would we go?" she whispered "There's another city a few miles from here. if we could get everyone there, it may be enough time to patch up the hole before the human discover us once more."

"How do you know that will work?"

"Because I watched them it takes a while for them to get here," Luna smirked

"Then what are we waiting for we need to notify the council!"

But they were too late. Turns out, there was already another ship headed their way. It just so happened that one ship arrived and returned earlier than the other, which had been only been a week later than the other. A loud noise rang through the inside of the moon. "Shoot." Luna gritted her teeth "Annabelle," she sighed "-get everyone out of this city now."

"But what about you?"

"Hey, I never said I wasn't going to help."
Annabelle nodded worriedly and left Luna and Moon. Scary. Hilarious. Tense. Whatever words used to describe their current situation had packed their bags and left for vacation, never to come back to the Within.

Luna watched as people came from the hole and into what once was everyone's home with pure anger. She had trusted the humans but all they had done was tear her away from everything she loved. No, that wasn't true. She still had her friends, family, and Ashe. Ashe was a human, but she wasn't evil like these people here. No, Ashe was kind, she had even sent Luna a book! A real, human, book about some fairy tale with an evil villain that was only evil because of what had happened to her! Ashe had called them, a 'Tragic Villain'. Luna giggled at the memory but the smile quickly turned into a frown, she would never see that book again. Sure, Ashe could get a new one with new memories but it would never replace the old memories that came with that book. The humans would see the book, recognize it, and bring it back. She swallowed and tried to not think about it. She would give away all she owned if it meant she could protect her kind. After all, like memories, friends, and family can't be replaced.
