The Wait

Hours slipped into days
But the wait didn't end
Summer turned to haze
But continued the trend

I checked my cell
A hundred times
Everyday, I rang his bell
I wrote a hundred rhymes

The wait seemed eternal
His return far away
My love isn't ephemeral
I'll forever guard my play

And so everyday it rained
I looked for his smile;
In the coffee I drained,
In my sullen wind chime.
