"Hey mom. . .I know I know, I'm sorry. I've been so busy," I sigh into the phone.

I step out of the elevator and into the lobby of Julian's semi-fancy apartment building feeling a stew of emotions; annoyed that my disquieted mother interrupted, but at the same time relieved that it was interrupted, tired from the hectic day I just had, and pissed that my own mother would accuse me of purposely worrying her.

"I was going to call mom, I've just been busy that's all. Look, you're talking to me right now aren't you? Which means I'm fine. I'll check in in a couple of days okay? Love you. " I shove my phone into my purse, all my feelings turning into full on exhaustion.

My boots are kicked off as soon I get into my hotel room and wasting no time I rush straight to my bed. But I can't fall asleep. The events from earlier in the night running through my head as I toss and turn.

Having been in a relationship for a little over 4 years I was beginning to feel the effects of singlehood, and by that I meant the frustration, sexual frustration.

By no means did I have feelings for the guy, I hardly knew him for fuck sakes; but no matter how hard I tried all I could think of was the way Julian's hands felt on my waist, how his alcohol infused breath tickled first my cheek and then my lips. How his forest green eyes burned right through my flesh and blood.

Stop.
That was the last thought that crossed my mind before I drifted off into sleep.

*Buzz buzz*
I flutter my eyes open
*Buzz buzz*
Extending my hand I smack the alarm on the small table next to my bed, but the buzzing doesn't stop. It takes me a couple of very long seconds to realize that it's my phone buzzing and not my alarm.

"H-hello?" I mutter trying to muffle my yawn.

"Heeey" a deep voice crooned on the other side of line.

"Hey, how's it going? Wait...who is this?" I rub my eyes, my mind still in a sleepy haze.

"It's Julian," he mumbles in his deep velvety voice.

"Oh, hey Julian, how are you?" I smile, genuinely happy to hear his voice on the other end of the line.

Making friends isn't an easy thing to do in a place like New York City and you can begin to feel lonely fairly quickly, or at least that's what I've been told. I was fortunate enough to have met Julian and had his company from the moment I arrived.

"Busy. Been practicing for a gig with the band. We're playing at a bar tonight and I was wondering if you wanted to come?"

In the background I can hear the clatter of a drum set either being put together or taken apart while a couple of guys, one of them being Albert, laugh up a storm.

"I know it's last minute but, if you have no plans you should stop by, I can show you my moves..." he trails off and I can almost hear that stupid smile of his spreading across his face.

"Is that right?" I laugh.

"Yeah, they're pretty great, if I do say so myself," the sarcasm in his voice makes me smile.

"I'll be the judge of that."

"Sorry to say princess but there won't be much to judge, I know what I'm talking about."
