Chapter 2

I watched as everyone went all around the room to pick a seat. I watched as an unsure girl came over and sat by me.

“Hey!” I said as enthusiastically as I could, “What’s your name?”

She looked up. “Oh, I’m Courtney.”

I examined her carefully. She was fairly pretty. She had deep brown eyes and hair the same color as her eyes. Her smooth tan skin fit in perfectly.

“So what’s yours?” she asked. I looked up, surprised, “I’m Maddy. Maddy Jenson. It’s nice to meet you.” We shook hands.

As the seats filled up, we talked. Apparently she has 2 sisters. (One younger and one older.) She has no pets, and overweight parents.

Mrs. Decker’s voice filled the room, “These will not be your permanent seats! But you will sit here for the first week so you can get used to school and sit with whoever you want. I will now read the schedule.” She paused and went and grabbed a stack of papers. “Could you pass these out, please?” she asked a boy with short blonde hair and brown eyes. He gave half to a boy I went to school with last year, Riley. Riley had blonde hair and hazel eyes. As they passed out the slips of paper Mrs. Decker went over the schedule roughly, “You see first that you have Core 1, Core 2, and Core3. This will be social studies, math, or science.”

I looked up as the boy with brown eyes came up to me. “What’s your name?” he asked, looking at the papers. “Maddy Jenson.” I said reaching my hand out for the paper. He flipped through the papers and found my name and handed it to me. I looked over at Courtney, who had received her paper from Riley.

“Now you can see what cores you have. And after cores, you will meet here for Religion. Then we will dismiss for lunch and you will receive lunch cards with your picture and…”  The bell cut her off. “You are dismissed to your cores.” She said.

I looked over at Courtney, “What’s the order of your cores?” She looked down, “Social Studies, Math, then Science. What’s yours?” I looked down at mine, “Math, Science, and then Social Studies.” We both frowned. “Maybe we can meet for lunch?” I asked. “Yeah, sure.” She said. I walked out of the room to the room across the hall: Mr. Meyers. He was the Math teacher. I watched as Kaitlyn walked out. “What’s your first core?” I asked. She looked down. “Social Studies, Science, and then Math. You?” “Math, Science, Social Studies. I guess we can sit by each other in Science.”

“Yep! See you in 45 minutes!” I watched as she walked into my homebase.

Looking into the room I saw it was almost clear except a few students who didn’t look like they were leaving. “Come in.” said Mr. Meyer. I walked to the back. I watched everyone file in and sit in each individual desk. At the end I saw my friend from last year, Kelly, walk in. She waved and came back to sit on my right. “All right,” cried Mr. Meyer, “As long as you behave and pay attention, you can pick your seats. Now I’m going to pass out this piece of paper with expectations, supplies, and a note to your parents. I will also read off your name in the progress.” I watched as everyone passed the slips back. And waited for my name.

“Maddy Jenson.” He hollered. “Here!” I replied, waving my hand. I looked to my right past Kelly, out the window into the hallway. It was lined up perfectly so you could see the class across the hall, Mrs. Decker’s social studies class. I smiled and waved at Court and Kaitlyn, who were sitting by each other.

“Hey! Kid!” yelled a boy in front of me, “Here’s your math book!” As I picked up my math book I looked into his eyes. They were a beautiful light blue. Then I looked up at his hair. It was a light brown and sloppily done. I was in love. “What are YOU looking at?” he said. I instantly knew who it was. The kid from the locker bay. As he turned around Kelly leaned over to whisper, “That’s Alex. He has a little attitude. He’s in my homebase.”

I looked up. “LITTLE!?” I said looking her in the eye. “Well….” She said turning away. “Well what?” I asked, she seemed to have more to say. She looked at me then at the front. Mr. Meyer was looking me right in the eye. “Maddy Jenson!” He said. “Yes?” I asked. “Your book number, stupid!” said Alex . “Oh! Umm… 90.” I said almost getting lost in Alex’s eyes. Mr. Meyer looked down and wrote it down. I listened carefully the next half hour, but most of the time my eyes fell on the back of Alex’s head. His hair was done sloppy but yet it looked so soft and perfect.

I almost jumped when the bell rang. “You are dismissed.” Mr. Meyer said from his desk. I picked up my math book to head out. “That was a close one Maddy!” said Kelly, book in hand. “Yeah, I know. Hey what’s your next core?” She looked down, “Social Studies.” “Oh, I have science.”

“My homebase teacher, Mrs. Krapfl, teaches Science. She’s pretty nice.” I giggled, “Krapfl?” She looked down at me and said “It’s pronounced Kraw ful”

I laughed, “Whatever.” “Follow me.” Kelly said. We walked out the classroom and outside a door. “This is Mrs. Krapfl’s room.” She said, leading me in. “Mrs.  Decker’s room is over there.” I pointed to the room next door.

“MOVE!” shouted a boy from behind. I turned to see Alex. He looked ready to slap Kelly with a book. He charged into the science room. “Oh, great!” I nearly screamed. But inside I was thinking, ‘Great! :)’
