“He is SO weird,” said Kelly. “Uh, yeah!” I said under my breath. Before Kelly could question me, the bell rang. “Well I better get going… See you at lunch!” she yelled, walking through the crowd towards Mrs. Decker’s room. As soon as she disappeared, Kaitlyn popped up.

“Oh, hey!” I said excitedly, “Follow me…”

I showed her in and we stumbled into Mrs. Krapfl. “How are you girls doing?” she asked politely. “Good, good,” Kaitlyn said. “What are your names?” I looked at Kaitlyn, “I’m Kaitlyn.”

Mrs. Krapfl looked at the desks, which were paired in fours like a table, and pointed to a black haired girl in blue. “You can sit by Linda.” Kaitlyn smiled. “And what’s your name?” Mrs. Krapfl asked. “Maddy,” I said, hoping for her to give me a good spot. “Jenson?” She asked. “Yep.”

“You can sit across from Kaitlyn, right by Alex.” She said, checking my name off from the list. Wide-eyed I walked over to Kaitlyn and pretended to be bursting for joy to be sitting by her. But it was too hard.  I stared at Alex and she knew instantly. I sat down and made myself comfy. “Do y-“ Kaitlyn almost said, but she was interrupted by Mrs. Krapfl. “Now that everyone has seats and is organized, we will now come up to the front and introduce ourselves.”

We all got up and I found Kaitlyn to stand by. “Make a circle,” Mrs. Krapfl instructed. As we spread out, I made eye contact with a lot of boys. I couldn’t find Alex until I looked to my left. ‘Oh my GOD!’ I thought, ‘Is he really standing by me?’ I snapped back into real world when Mrs. Krapfl handed Linda the ball. “Ok here are the rules:

1)    You can’t pass it to someone you went to school with last year”

I heard Kaitlyn sigh.

“2) You have to pass it to the opposite gender.”

That time I heard Alex sigh.

“You can start whenever you’re ready,” Mrs. Krapfl told Linda. “I’m Linda,” she announced. I saw her narrow her eyes and throw the ball at a short boy with amazing blue eyes. “Uh, I’m Matt?” He said almost questioningly. I saw him look at all the girls, and then narrow me out.

He held the ball over his head and threw it at me. Half surprised, I flinched and caught it. He smiled. “I’m Maddy,” I said. I was unsure of who to throw it to. I scanned the boys. I picked out a black haired boy with blue eyes. I threw the ball, but my horrible aim made it sail over his head and into the hall. I blushed, embarrassed. I heard Alex snicker as the boy chased the ball.

When he came back in he said, “I’m Matt also.” He looked over and smiled at the other Matt.

After that, I figured I didn’t have to do anything but watch. The ball sailed back and forth. Finally, when almost no one was left, the ball flew right to Alex, “Uh, I’m Alex,” he said. A girl giggled.

Mrs. Krapfl said, “Whoever hasn’t received the ball, please raise your hand.” I looked around as 3 girls and 2 boys put their hand up. Alex raised the ball over his head. He looked about ready to throw it to me but I said, “I al-“ only to be cut off. “I know. Move!” I stepped back, and he threw the ball, nearly missing my face. I watched as Kaitlyn caught it. “I’m Kaitlyn,” she said sweetly. I watched her bounce the ball perfectly to a boy across the room.

Eventually the rest of the people went and we all went back to our seats. “Alright, would these 2 table please go back and get some books from the back of the room and come up and tell me there number,” Mrs. Krapfl said. Me, Kaitlyn, Linda, Alex, and 3 girls went to the back of the room. “Maddy!” I heard Kaitlyn whisper, as she ran up to me. She came up to my ear and whispered, “Do you like Alex?”

I shrugged and blushed. “Yeah, sorta,” I whispered loudly. She looked up. “Well you better keep an eye on him…” I looked up to see a girl with her arms around him hugging. “So… Who do you like?” She asked him. “Me? Oh wait I already knew that.” I looked at Alex’s face as she leaned in for a kiss. “I… uh… like someone else,” he mumbled. My mouth dropped. He passed up a very pretty girl for someone else. Her stubborn face wrinkled up in disgust, “Who?” He looked shocked. “Uh… you don’t know her…” he said picking up a book and walking to the front of the room.

He quickly said, “21” and ran back to his seat. I picked out a fairly nice looking book and walked to the front, “22” I said proudly. I sat down and waited for her to let the rest of the class go.

As the last tables went over to say there number, the bell rang. Alex got up and looked me in the eye, and said, “Bye, Maddy? Is it?” I smiled, “Yeah, Maddy.” I looked into his eyes and saw him smile. “Cool… uh bye.” He said shyly.

When he walked out the room, I smiled and giggled a little. Linda said, “I think someones in love!!” To which I blushed more. We all walked right by each other to are next classes. Linda and Kaitlyn went to Math. And I walked into Social Studies, where Mrs. Decker told us our seats. I was put behind Alex by a girl named Cameron. She was pretty with light brownish blonde hair and blue eyes. She had side bangs and was from Mr. Meyer’s home base.

The only thing we did in Social Studies was talk, go over expectations and supplies, and get our books; it wasn’t a surprise when the bell rang. Everyone left for Religion except a few people who found their way to their seats. I walked back to my old spot and waited for Courtney, who came in a few minutes later with all her books.

Mrs. Decker told us the schedule after Lunch and gave us our lunch cards. My schedule was: English, Lit, then Music and Wellness, then we all got to go outside and talk.

Courtney had the exact same schedule.

Mrs. Decker told us that we can get to know each other and we are free to go to our lockers when the bell rings.  Courtney told me, “So I heard you like Alex.” I was surprised she heard and said, “How do you know?” “I’m friends with Kaitlyn,” she said, which explained a lot. “Well don’t tell anyone,” I said hopefully. “Your secret’s safe with me.” I smiled, knowing I’d made friends. “Thanks,” I said trustingly, “You’re a true friend” “You too,” she said with a smile, just as the bell rang.
