Hannah smiles as she switches off the computer, taking the Sims 3 disc out of the drive and sliding it into its case. It's been a good game today, she's started on the drama of the family at last. She was going to start it with Rachel, but she's sure she won't mind her just getting it all going. First Melissa's been made pregnant, which always leads to a good storyline. Then she can start to break the family up, maybe have someone cheat on someone else, whatever. Maybe she can actually use the sim version of Rachel to good use in this family. Originally she had just intended to change her appearance, show the real Rachel to annoy her, then delete her from the game, but since Rachel hadn't come round yet, she could always have a little more fun with the family.
Kyle did have a girlfriend, after all. And the game notification did say he and Rachel were slightly attracted to each other. Hmm. Maybe.
Hopefully Rachel would come back round soon, though. It would be good to play the game together, Rachel always had good ideas. It was just more fun with someone else, after all.
Hannah runs downstairs, hopping off the last step and bouncing into the hall that leads off to the kitchen. "Mum, do you know when Rachel can come over?" Hannah calls, swinging her head around the kitchen door.
Her mum looks up from the kitchen counter, an expression of confusion coming on her face for a moment. "Rachel?" she inquires. "Who's Rachel, dear?"
"Yes, Rachel. You know, my best friend...?" Hannah reminds her mum slowly.
The bewildered expression remains on the older woman's face for a few more seconds, then she shakes her head and blinks as if she's waking from a dream. "Yes, Rachel. Of course. I don't know, I think she might be busy today, or something."
"Right..." Hannah says slowly. "Did her mum call, or something?"
"Yes. Yes, that's probably it," agrees Hannah's mum, though she still wears a slightly confused expression, as if she's trying to see through a fog.
A few minutes later, after getting a drink from downstairs, Hannah's sitting back at her computer, staring at the black screen.
For just those brief seconds, just momentarily, it was almost as if her mum didn't remember who Rachel was.
But that's crazy, right? She and Rachel have known each other for years. Since they were in preschool together, in fact.
It's probably nothing. Just her mum feeling a little tired, or something.
Rachel will be around soon.
Of course she will.
