Opening my eyes, I realize I am feeling achy and somehow weird. I am lying on the pavement of a road. My first thought is 'What the hell am I doing lying on a pavement? I was in Hannah's room...' I get to my feet, immediately noticing that I was wearing different clothing than before. I was wearing jeans and a pink blouse. Now I am wearing a short light blue dress and sandals to match. My light brown hair is longer and down by my shoulders and I swear, when I look in the window of a nearby shop and see my distorted reflection, my eyes have changed from a light hazel colour to a deeper brown. 'What is going on?' Then I notice something on the shop in front of me. It is named 'Sunset Valley Grocery Store.' Sunset Valley is the name of the Sims town...isn't it? Then I remember what happened in Hannah's room before, the laptop falling on the floor, glowing a weird colour, me passing out. It hits me like a ton of bricks.
'I'm in the Sims!'
No wonder the town looks so familiar, we have played this game like a million times. Of course I would recognize it, at least from a distance. Now it all looks so real, not just pixels on a screen. I touch the shop window, and am shocked to find out it feels cold and altogether real to the touch. My mind is spinning. How did I get here? Is this all just a freaky dream? I can't really be in the Sims...can I?
"Excuse me, are you all right?" I hear a voice behind me, and turn around to see a teenage girl. She has long dark brown hair, dark brown eyes and a sweet concerned face. She is wearing a short pink dress. She looks so familiar though I can't figure out why.
"I'm fine, I think..." I am still in a daze. She looks at me, still concerned for me.
"Are you sure? You look kinda pale. Do you want to come over to my house for a bit and rest?"
I wonder what I should do. Sure, this girl seems friendly enough, but she is a sim evidently enough. Should I accept? It's not like I know what else to do.
"Um, sure I guess. Thanks."
Her face shows happiness as she hears me accept her offer.
"What's your name?" she asks me.
"Rachel. What's yours?"
"Melissa." I suddenly realize why she seems so familiar. This is the sim girl we made along with her family yesterday! Okay this is just getting weird. I ponder as she leads me along several pavements and passes buildings I recognise to be the school, the library and the town hall. Finally we reach her house, a modest two story house with a garage next to it. I should know, I made it. Obviously I don't tell Melissa that as I follow her up the drive to the front door. She opens it and I walk in behind her.
Melissa's mum comes out of the kitchen, a smile on her face.
"Hello Melissa. I see you brought a friend home. I'm Lucy. And who are you?"
"My name's Rachel," I don't tell her that I know her name already as that would no doubt freak her out.
She seems friendly enough. We made her traits friendly, natural cook, neat, family orientated and hopeless romantic, so I would assume she is nice. Melissa motions for me to follow her up to her room. I see all the rooms on the landing, Melissa leads me into the nearest one. There in her room, she sits down on a chair, and I sit next to her not wanting to do anything to unnerve her.
"So are you all right? You look a bit better." She smiles at me, and I find myself smiling back despite myself.
"I think I'm all right now. Though...I don't have anywhere to go."
Her face shows shock.
"Aww, poor you. Did you just move here or something?"
"Um...yeah, something like that."
"You can live here for a bit if you want? I can easily set up another bed in the corner."
I feel gratitude to this teenage sim for showing me such kindness. I haven't got anywhere to go, so I guess I'll have to move in here for a while.
"I'd like to, yes please. But won't your mum and dad mind?"
Melissa smiles. "No of course not! They will like having another girl around the house, especially if it makes me happy! I get kind of lonely sometimes. Let me just go and ask my parents about it." She leaves the room, leaving me to wait in her room. The furniture looks so real, and exactly where we put it when we built the house. I continue to wonder if I'm dreaming. Soon Melissa comes back into the room, an excited grin on her pretty face.
"Mum and Dad said yes! That means you can stay with us for a while. They've enrolled you into the high school with me. It'll be just like having another sister."
I smile and thank her, though inside I feel worried and scared. My parents will notice I'm gone after a while. But will anyone know I've gone into the Sims?
