The Runaway Queen (sequel to Winning the Kings Heart)

II

I opened my eyes slowly, icey water splashed up on my numb legs. A salty wind whipped through my thin clothes and hair.
I lay stranded on a rocky ravine, just below the castle, I stood up in shaky feet and tried to walk but a splash of icey water hit the ravine and sprayed across my thin frame.
I was knocked down I held tight to the slippery rocks, I clung there, tears
streaming down my face my desperate screams lost in the raging wind.
Shivering with cold and fear, my lips were numb and probably blue. I tried to hoist my body up but failed.

"Help!!!" I screamed the wind carried my voice all the way up into the heavens, if Hera heard me she surely wasn't making any effort to help me.

A black blob made its way towards me, I couldn't make out any of the black figures features through the salty spray of water, the figure took my hand and helped me hobble into a cave.
There was a fire burning, in the corner giving the cave a orange glow and the jagged stalactites cast eerie shadows across the cave floor.

The person sat me down on a rock, handed me a wooden bowl full of warm stew. I ate it hungrily.

"W-who are y-you?" I said between chattering teeth and spoonfuls of stew.

The person took of its hood, I was a woman, she turned and I couldn't believe my eyes, it was Meredith!

"Meredith!!" I said happy to see someone who I could trust!

"Megara, the guards are looking for me, and you as well, we need to get out of here."

"Where's Milly?" I asked.

Meredith turned away, tears glistened in her eyes.

"She didn't make it out of the castle.!" She said holding back tears.

"What happened?" I asked

"Well we knew what the gods said about you so we needed to get out of there, we knew if we were found we would be raped, then probably killed, so we went through the tunnels but she got captured, I made it through the tunnels which led to this cave, we need to move before we are found."

I didn't hold back tears, it had been awhile before I had cried, but then I remembered my powers so I swallowed them and took the last sip of my stew.

"Meredith?" I asked quietly.

"Yes?" She said sitting down beside me.

"I-I" I swallowed and restarted "I did run away, I ran away because I saw something and I couldn't live, marry and make a family with a man who's heart belongs to someone else's. I saw king Alexander kiss another girl, so I asked the gods to take me somewhere else, and they did I-"

"Before u keep going I have something to tell you also..." Meredith cut in.
She swallowed and turned away not wanting to meet my eyes.

"What is it?" I inquired.

"I-I," she sniffed. "I was the girl that kissed King Alexander, when he saw me he said I was the most beautiful woman he had met, he asked me if I would accompany him-"

"Stop!!" I yelled. "You're telling me that you were the one who ruined my life! You loved the man I was to be married to! How could you?" I choked up,

"Look I didn't mean to make you run away, I'm sorry!"

"No you're not! You are not the least bit sorry, and to think I trusted you!" I fumed

The cave walls shook, I had stared it and now I couldn't stop it.

Rocks fell from the ceiling,

"Megara!! What's happening?" Meredith yelled.

"So did you like accompanying him in his chambers? Cuddling up to him like a lost puppy, knowing that if I found out my heart would break, knowing that it was wrong, but you said nothing! You were never my friend!!!" I yelled.

"Stop Megara! Stop!! Please I'm sorry!!"

The cave walls blew in crushing her, after I did it I instantly regretted it, I killed my friend! I killed my friend!!!!! I fell down on my knees, the jagged cave floor cutting my knees. I cried, and passed out.
