Chapter 3

I finally caught up to her. She seemed really pissed off. Her face was bright red and you could see the anger in her eyes. I quietly found the will to asked her, "what's wrong?" "Nothing!" she said with a furious, harsh tone. Everyone was rushing to their next class. But we stood there as Monique glaring at me. So I decided that it'll be a good idea that we have a chat and not go to our next class. So I grabbed her hand and dragged her in the opposite direction, away from next class. We made our way down the stairs and through the halls. I was taking her to the oval.

We finally reached the other side of the oval. We didn't say anything the entire way. I sat down on the lush, green grass. She was still standing, but not for long. She sat down next to me and as we looked around, we saw that no one would know where we are, but I wasn't really worried about that anyway. I was more worried and focused on Monique.

She had acted really weird leaving class and she would always wait for me. But she just rushed off as fast as she could.

We both sat there silent for quite a while, then all of a sudden I had to break the silence. So without thinking I blurted out bluntly, "did you here Dylan asked me out?"

And straight away I knew that was the wrong thing to say.

I mentally slapped myself for saying that. I could tell she was annoyed by that question.

"Yes!" She practically screamed at me. We sat there again in silence.

2 minutes passed. It felt like hours to me. I could't have my best friend pissed at me. I need her. I have to fix this ... somehow!

I spoke again, "Monique, listen to me ... your my bestest friend in the whole entire universe, and you will be forever." I paused. She looked at me strangely not knowing where I was headed with this, but I could still see anger in her eyes. I continued, "please tell me why you are angry, and why you stormed out?"

Monique looked at me. She didn't seem pissed or angry anymore. She seemed embarrassed and shy. Then her eyes travelled down to the grass. She went to open her mouth but she said nothing. I put my hand against her face lightly pushing her head up so we were able to make eye contact. I slowly moved my hand away and she opened her mouth again. Her voice soft, timid spoke, "I stormed away and I'm pissed at you because I - I'm jealous."

"What are you talking about, Monique?" I questioned.

"Ever since I met him, I've always liked him. He's the only guy I think about and he goes and asks you out. It's not fair. I try and try but he doesn't notice me." By this stage she was about to cry. Her voice got heavy as she continued.

"I work my ass off for Dylan to even look at me, and in one class of you knowing each other, like 5 seconds of talking to each other, he goes and asks you out!" A single tear escaped her eye.

I didn't quite know how to respond in the right words. So as soon as she finished I embraced her in the biggest hug. She responded to the hug quite quickly and we were over the other side of the oval in our hug for what seemed like forever.

When we released from our hug I placed my hand on her cheek wiping away her stray tears, and told her, "you made all this fuss over Dylan. Monique ... remember how we are best friends? You can tell me anything, and if you don't want me to go out with Dylan, I can always cancel! I'm not letting any guy no matter who he is, even if he's a prince, get in between our friendship." She looked at me in thanks than straight away shock took over! She said practically screaming I think in happiness for me "YOU HAVE TO GO ON THAT DATE! I know I like him and now you know too, but you can't just deny one of the hottest guys in the school. It's like committing suicide, and you'll make everyone jealous including Jake." She smirked, nudged my side.

"Are you sure it's ok?"

"For sure."

"I'll even help you pick out what your going to wear. You're going to look so damn hot that every guy around you would melt at first sight!" I laughed at the last comment she made. God she was the best. She was an angel.

We realized the time and as we got up the bell rang. we walked back across the oval. She had decided that she didn't want to walk so as I HAD to give her a piggy back ... up the hill, and to her locker.

I dropped her off at her locker and as we went our separate ways I looked back at her and smiled. She was the bestest friend anyone could have!
