I love you because –
What?
such strange words
I should hope
never
to begin a sentence
with them.
Because –
that word of reason
Because –
that word
of explanation
Because –
a word of numbers
and values;
a word in a world
that is clear.
Love –
never has a human
spoke a word more full of doubt
Love –
so carelessly tossed away
and used
its meaning has escaped us.
Love –
it has no numbers attached
but perhaps
it should have
an expiry date.
The brain –
that human tool
of reason
and precision
The heart –
that human weakness
which will be our failure
and success
and confusion.
I love you because –
there is no because.
And you are because
and you are the brain
and I am the opposite;
unclear, unrestrained.
