Lin immediately woke up when the sunlight hit her left eyelid. She stretched her muscles, yawned, and stood from the hammock that she had just slept on.
"Awake so early Greenie?" Someone said from behind her. The girl jumped, surprised by the sudden voice. Turns out it was just Minho.
"What the hell! Don't sneak up on me!" Yelled the Chinese girl. Minho gave her an amused look before taking off. 'Where's he going?' Thought Lin as she jogged behind the tall Asian. "Where are you going?"
"I'm heading off into the Maze. Don't worry, I'll be back." The Korean boy continued, "Until then, you're gonna get your assignment soon. Wish you luck." He said, flicking Lin's forehead.
She pouted and rubbed her forehead in annoyance. "Jerk.." She muttered under her breath. Minho chuckled. "Alright, see ya later princess." He was gone after that.
--
After breakfast, Lin set out to find Alby, who she assumed was the leader of this place.
While walking, she saw faint writing marks on the Maze's walls. "What's that?" Lin muttered, walking closer towards the wall of names. She touched the solid wall, it was cold against her warm hands, making her shiver slightly.
"Lin right?" A voice from behind her asked. The female turned around to see a familiar face, Alby.
"What is this? Why is your names all here? Why-" She was interrupted by Alby's strong voice. "You're a curious one. I'll tell ya after you carve your name down." He said, handing the dainty girl a sharp looking knife.
--
It was confusing for Lin at first, she didn't quite understand why this had happened to them. The Creators, as what Alby had told her, were the people behind this whole thing. Frustrated, that's what Lin was feeling at that exact moment.
Alby sent her off to Winston, Keeper of the Slicers.
Right now she wasn't listening to anything Winston had to say, since Lin was to occupied with her thoughts.
"Lin? Quit daydreaming!" The Keeper shouted, scaring the living daylights out of her. She squeaked at his irritated tone and wrapped her body as if she wanted to hide from the world.
"Anyway, this job may be tough for an ant like you, so I hope you keep up. We will be grooming, feeding, and cleaning up their klunk. At the end of the day, we'll have to slaughter the animals for Frypan." Winston explained, twirling a pocket knife between his red stained fingers.
Lin didn't take any mind to it at first, but the blood on his shirt was fresh and new.
This place smelled exactly like iron, which was the smell of blood.
The girl's face turned into one that is nauseous. Her cheeks grew huge, Winston knew what she was going to do and shook his head. "No, don't do it!"
She puked.
--
During dinner, the men around her shared disgusted looks to what Lin had just said.
"Ew. That's gross Shortcake, why would you vomit? Isn't girls good at cutting animals and stuff?" Minho questioned with a raised eyebrow.
She glared at him between her hair and poked the undercooked meat with the tip of her fork.
Newt laughed between his chewing and elbowed her right side. "Don't worry Linnie, you're gonna get your assignment in no time and you're gonna be bloody good at it. Just gotta wait.."
The Greenie giggled, her child voice creeping in a couple times making her sound a bit immature.
"So..." Minho suddenly spoke with his dark eyes wandering towards the girls plate.
Lin stopped laughing and rolled her eyes. How could he eat after what she had said? She pushed her meal away. "Go ahead."
--
It was morning once again. It was time to start trying out for the Med-Jacks.
Lin got the hang of treating small cuts and bruises, she enjoyed helping the patients get better. Jeff chuckled at the way she nurtured another pained Glader, she was good at this.
It was funny also, she tend to be very motherly. With the way she would speak firmly or hold the hands of the men when alcohol was shown. Jeff couldn't have been any more proud.
She handled with the needles and blood, being a Med-Jack was better than being a Slicer, she wouldn't want to kill animals and have blood stained hands just as the Keeper had.
It was finally the end of the day and Lin felt great. "I think I've found my new job."
--
"So you're a Med-Jack?" Minho inquired, finishing the crumbs on his plate.
"Yes. I'm glad that I became one. I really didn't want to be a Slicer." Lin replied, chewing on an overcooked steak (since she was always complaining about having undercooked meat).
Ben chuckled. "You only tried out two jobs. Glad you didn't become a Slopper though. That's like our worst job here. So congratulations. "
The girl smiled. So he was nice to her now? "Why thank you Benny."
Minho rolled his eyes at the two. They we're annoying when they fought so it was nice to hear them making up. The Korean stood up, pulling Lin's elbow in the process. "Alright Shortcake, lets get moving. It's bedtime."
