Beth POV

She knew that trying to escape was futile.  She was bound to a chair and gagged so no one would hear her screams.  Hearing Daryl's voice as he talked to the leader Joe made Beth fight against her restraints and bite at her gag.  But it was no use.  Looking at the man that 'claimed' her glaring at her, she stopped fighting.  She returned the glare, but at the same time she couldn't shake how much he looked like her former travel companion.  The man they called Mac looked like he could be Daryl's twin.

Daryl POV

He knew it was all his fault.  Beth was gone and all he could hope was that she was still alive.  A fear crept in the back of his mind that she was taken by the claimers and might already been dead.  He didn't miss the smirk that Len shot Joe when he described his missing friend.

When he finally killed the last one in the group and left with Rick, Michonne and Carl who he had been reunited with, albeit through horrible circumstances he had one mission in mind; find Beth and the rest of their group.

Mac POV

Seeing the rest of his group dead didn't phase him.  He just untied the girl and said, "Ya can leave now or stay with me.  Group's gone."

He knew that Beth was going to stay.  It was obvious the girl couldn't make it on her own.  He knew even most men wouldn't be able to and a pretty girl like her could end up with another group like his former.

Mac wasn't like his former group but he wasn't an angel either.  He seen them rape and pillage and didn't do anything to stop it.  But something in him snapped when he had seen Len leering at the beautiful blonde girl.  If he didn't claim her, Len would.  Besides, they were starting to get on him about not claiming anyone.

He broke her in pretty quickly.  Girl seemed to learn quick if she isn't fucking him, she'd end up fucking someone like Len.  Mac knew that was probably why she was so compliant.  He was happy she wasn't a virgin.

Beth POV

Beth had stayed with Mac.  She knew it was better to have a travel companion then to be out on her own.

When they had found shelter Beth had cuddled into Mac on the bed.

"There's another bed over there," Mac said, pointing to the mattress on the other side of the room.

Beth couldn't help the pang of rejection she felt at that moment, but she didn't know why she felt that way.  But what they had in the past was coerced sex at best.  Still, she walked over to the other side of the room, shoulders slumped, unable to stop the sting of his rejection from showing.

Mac POV

He didn't know what possessed him, but he found himself getting up off the bed and carrying Beth back to the bed with him.

Things had changed after that night.  He knew he never wanted to see Beth with that rejected, defeated look again.  From that point on after he made his final thrust and threw the spent condom into the waste basket beside the bed, he would tenderly kiss her and hold her close to him as sleep overtook them.
