melody sat at their usual seat, wondering why the hell calum wasn't here yet. he was always earlier than her.

as she was about to sit down, a familiar dark haired boy sat down next to her, catching his breath.

“what took you so long?”

i wasn't even that late!”

yeah, yeah. why weren't you here first?"

i just woke up late, okay?”

calum, you never wake up late. is there something you're not telling me?”

“if i did, why should i tell you? we're not even friends.”

ouch.

“if we're not friends, what are we?”

“not friends.”

calum…”

“just leave me alone okay? you don't know what it feels like to have a family member in a hospital!”

melody was taken aback. “my parents were in the hospital, calum! they were in the goddamn hospital!”

the librarian glared at the two, motioning them to quiet down.

“did they ever get out?” his voice was gentle, but quiet at the same time.

“ye- no. t-they died, calum.”

and with that, he pulled her into a long hug.

“i'm sorry, melody.”
