THE BRIDE

I stand in front of you today ,
Watching you on your big day.
Your beauty still takes my breath away,
Just as it did on that lucky day.

That was the day when I first saw you,
Trying to gather your fallen notes and I helped you.

Your smile and thank you made my heart flutter,
That was the first time a girl made me stutter.

I waited around daily to see you every morning since that day,
You sometimes gave me a smile and that brightened my day.

I finally gathered courage to talk to you the other day,
But I saw you walking hand in hand with another guy that day.

He was the most popular guy in school,
He was the definition of Mr. Cool.

I saw from the sidelines how you cared for him,
But it was soon clear you were just a toy to him.

Months flew by like that,
And I saw you lost your smile because of that brat.

Once again I saw you in the hallway,
Picking up your notes just like that day.

But instead of your beautiful smile,
I saw tears escaping your eye.

I saw him walking towards us with another girl in tow,
And then I did what I should have done a long time ago.

I asked you to be my prom date,
And that's how we were brought together by fate.

Here we are today at the altar holding hands,
My heart skips a beat on seeing that smile as we exchange the wedding bands.

A smile forms on my lips, big and wide,
When I hear the priest say "You may now kiss the bride".
