Chapter 1: Life Changing Decision
It's seven fifteen in the morning and I'm eating some good ol' Corn Flakes. I would prefer Frosted Flakes but mom says that sugary breakfasts isn't good for a growing child like me. I quickly chug down the remaining milk in my bowl and swing my backpack on. I'm a few feet from the door but my mom comes a blocks my way.
"Justin! You're leaving your lunch behind" my mother says.
"Mom I have money I can buy myself lunch at school" I respond.
My mother sighs and says "you know that school lunches have no nutritional value, I'm just looking out for you. America is experiencing an obesity problem and I don't want you getting diabetes".
I look down and grab the brown lunch bag from her hands. She smiles and says "oh and before you go can you give me some money for groceries? Fruits and vegetables are expensive". I give her my weeks allowance of $35 and leave.
At the bus stop I find Norma Waiting for me. She starts talking about one of her favorite Kpop bands. Norma is my age. She is a little taller than most girls at our school and is average weight. But her high stature makes her look thin. She has light green-blue eyes which is a good contrast for her medium brown hair. The bus arrives but she continues to talk about how she loves the song "No More" by Beast. The bus driver honks the horn and Norma jumps and screams. She holds her hand over her chest with her eyes wide for several seconds before she registers what happened. We both climb inside the bus and sit next to each other. The bus leaves the stop and heads towards the school.
Every weekday is the same. I wake up, shower, get dressed up, eat the same breakfast, and go to school. Every class is the same routine too. Nearly the same objectives and lessons. Right now in third period, U.S. history we're learning the near same material of 8th grade U.S. history. I'm getting bored of learning. I remember when I was excited to go to school and learn new things. Not recap the things from years prior. Good things there's only fifteen minutes left then it's lunch.
Fifteen minutes later a bell rings signaling the end of the period and the beginning of lunch. I sit at my usual spot in the quad and unpack my lunch. Ugh, of course. A turkey sandwich with whole wheat bread and carrot sticks. Right when I'm about to bite into the healthy flavorless item Norma sits across from me.
I stare at her meal. "Oh my flying spaghetti monster! Pizza!" I shout in awe.
She looks at me. "Yeah do you want it? The school's pizza is always to greasy."
I happily take the slice of greasy goodness and bit into it. I'm so happy a tear forms in my eye. Food, actual food that taste good! Norma interrupts my foodgasm.
"So today in computer science class I stumbled on Cube Entertainment's website and... they're holding auditions next week in L.A.! Wanna come?" She says in excitement.
Norma has been obsessed with Kpop since the beginning of 6th grade. Her mom finally bought her a computer because she felt that in middle school the internet will become more frequently used in the classroom. And one day on YouTube she came across a video by Beast. Now one of her favorite boy bands. She instantly got hooked. Since that day her dream is to become a Kpop star.
"Isn't that the company the Beast is from?" I say to her.
"Yeah and HyunA, you know from 4minute." She responds
"So you want to audition with me?" She adds.
I think about for a while. Hmm should I? I mean singing, is that the career I want? I guess being pop star in a foreign country will be fun, different, and exciting. Wait? Can I even sing?
"I don't know... can I even sing?" I ask Norma.
"Yeah, you sing good. I've heard you sing; it was ok". She says
"Ok I'll do it." I happily say.
