Chapter 6: Part of the Evergreens

A/N: This chapter has a lot of action and even so romance ;) so I hope you enjoy.

All eyes were on me as I stood surrounded by three ceremonial bonfires. The rest of the pack members from the sub territories had also shown up. Everyone stood outside of the triangle formed by the three fires. Energy from the crowd surged through me. I inhaled a breath of cool night air.

  Dallas gave me a reassuring look as Tony and Misty entered the triangle. Tony stepped forward and placed a hand on my shoulder.  “Tonight a brilliant young wolf joins us!” His voice boomed across the clearing, “We must all love, protect, and cherish her as our family.” There were murmurs of agreement throughout the pack. “Does anyone object to accepting Cillian to our pack?” He questioned. Silence filled the air. Misty also came forward and placed a hand on my shoulder. “I hereby announce that Cillian Evers is officially a member of the Evergreen pack!” Tony thundered with joy and pride. Applause along with whoops and hollers rang out in the night.

  I had no problem shifting on my own this time. The moonlight glinted off of my fur, not that it had any special effect, but it was still pretty. Tony and Misty shifted after me and then the rest of the pack followed. There were now at least 40 or 50 wolves among us. I could feel the connection with every single one of them. This sense of belonging was new, but I liked it.

  Alpha Tony lifted his head back and howled. The rest of us joined in and listened as they echoed off the mountains. We raced off into the woods. For now all my problems would fade away. I would enjoy the moment.

  Dallas soon caught up with me. We looked at each other. Words weren’t really necessary. Eventually he spoke, Welcome to the pack. I smiled at him not knowing what else to say. Dallas pushed me playfully and I nipped at his ear.

  I wasn’t sure how long we ran for. It seemed like we could go on forever. This memory wouldn’t be one that I’d soon forget. Everything was perfect for a bit. For one night it didn’t matter that I was a werewolf, that I had to be deceitful to my friends and family for their safety, or that my whole life had been turned upside down. I could just be me for now.         

  Eventually all good things must come to an end. Out of nowhere unknown wolves ambushed us. Chaos spread like a wildfire. War broke out between my pack and the rogues. To my right Lance and Casey were fighting with three brawny male wolves. On my left Tyler, Eli, and Cyllus were taking on several of their own enemies.

  That’s when I noticed that two female wolves were also advancing on me. My fur bristled up as I growled and barred my fangs at them. The black one lunged at me and we collided midair. Cillian! Dallas yelled as he tackled a third wolf running at me.

  “Oh, no this can’t be happening”, I thought to myself as the milky brown wolf emerged from the shadows. He stalked towards me, but was cut off by Alpha Tony. “What are you doing here Bryce?” Tony snarled. “Give me the girl”, Bryce growled. “Leave her be, she is of no use to you”, Tony reasoned. “Oh, but she is”, Bryce said with a wicked smile and went for Tony’s throat. Tony evaded him and they went rolling off further into the woods.

  I didn’t have time to worry about Tony because out of the corner of my eye I seen Claira being choked by a large gray wolf. She was so tiny, and her throat easily fit into the jaws of her attacker. I bounded toward her and rammed the gray wolf, grabbing him by HIS throat. He slung me off and I hit the ground roughly. Seconds later a couple of the wolves from one of the sub territories came to our rescue.
