"You don't get to choose if you get hurt in this world, old man, but you do have some say in who hurts you. I like my choices, I hope she likes hers."

-John Green, "The Fault in Our Stars"

It felt like months after since I've seen Avan.

Though it was only a couple days, me being cooped up in my room, rotting away.

I managed to convince myself I was fine, even had a date planned out for the evening.

With Aiden, of course.

I quietly play with my duvet, wrapped to the brim. I looked like a big ball of sheets.

Abdominal sheet monster.

I slumped back on my bed, I felt really guilty. I didn't even know why.

A loud beep caught my attention, it seems like Aiden had texted me a reminder.

'Babe, remember I'm picking you up tonight, at eight. Be ready, I need to tell you something important.

Love you.

-Aiden'

I chuck my phone to the dresser, not feeling to go out tonight. Though the text sparked my curiosity. Something important. Glancing to the rounded clock at the top of my bed post, I concluded it was about seven forty-five.

I sighed, my mood was crumbling, as I solemnly trudge to my closet yanking out anything I could get my hands on.

I grunt as I accidentally put my shirt on backwards.

This was going to be a long evening...

Avan stares out the window, yearning to hold miss mate, and tell her he loved her. He had a bad feeling about tonight. But there was nothing he could possibly do.

The bright orange sun, setting, was a sight to die for. But he would cut off a limb or two to watch the sun, but he would tear his own heart out to catch a sight of Leah again.

A knock on his bedroom door, brings him away from hid thoughts. "Hm." He mumbled, not turning in fear of missing any moment of the sun setting.

"Alpha, Cole's burial is about to begin." An omega stammered.

Avan waves a hand for him to leave, stupid Cole. Overdosing on sleeping pills. Stupid asshole, overdosing himself like that.

Avan sighs deeply, he missed Leah.

He really did.

I sat quietly across Aiden's unusually nervous demeanor. I opened my mouth, a forced smile lingering up upon my lips. "I missed you." I grinned, which was an honest truth.

"I missed you too, Leah. But, I-- uh. I need to tell you something." He says coughing uncomfortably.
I stare at him, I wonder what he wanted to say. I raise a silent eyebrow to him, curious.

My thoughts still whirling around Avan. What was he doing? I sighed, zoning away from reality.

"--love you."

I snapped away from my heavy thoughts, "Excuse me?" I asked, not quite catching what he said.

He breathes in deeply, smiling at me nervously, propping himself up from his seat and kneels on one knee. My cheeks flushed as I realized people were staring, more specifically gushing at us.

"Will you marry me, Leah McCarthy?" He breathes out, licking his chapped lips.

I stared at him, in absolute awe.

And for once in my life, I did not know what to do.
