Destiny (Sequel to Sun Wolf)

Ch. 6

Early the next morning, Comet, Cloud Claw and I went on patrol.

"Do you think the Black Moon pack wants to start a war?" Cloud Claw asked as we walked along.

"Either that or they just really hate us," Comet replied.

Comet still had the leaf bandage on his side, held in place by cobwebs and tree sap.

"How are you holding up, Comet?" I asked.

"I'm fine, mom," Comet replied.

I smiled slightly. The bushes in front of us moved. We all stopped, alert.

"Who's there?" Comet asked the bushes.

A wolf with a green underbelly emerged from the bushes.

"Who are you?" Cloud Claw asked.

"Why should I tell you?" the wolf replied.

Cloud Claw growled.

"Listen, whoever you are, this is our territory," Comet said.

"In other words, go find your own home," Cloud Claw snapped.

"Easy Cloud Claw," I said softly.

"Just get off our territory and there won't be any trouble," Comet said.

"What? A wolf can't pass through here to get to her own family?" the wolf said.

"What are you doing out here alone?" I asked.

"It's my turn to hunt," she replied.

"Alone?"

"Yep."

"What about the rest of your pack?"

"I don't have one. It's only my mate, our two pups, and me."

"Then I'll escort you out," I said.

"Geez, I can take care of myself ya know. I'm not a newborn pup," the wolf said angrily.

"I know, but I don't trust you," I replied.

"Fine," she said with an annoyed sigh.

After I left the strange wolf, we finished patrolling our territory, then went back home and reported everything.

"We'll need to keep an eye out for her," Cloud Claw said.

Everyone agreed. The rest of the day and the night went smoothly, with no visits from that strange, green-bellied wolf.

Frost's POV
I opened my eyes and saw Comet and the pups sleeping soundly. I got up and stretched, then trotted outside. A cool breeze blew through my silvery-white fur. The sun was still hiding its face behind the mountains.

I was instantly alert when I heard movement in the bushes next to me. I scanned the area, my body tense, ready to attack. I was able to find a pair of eyes in the shadows just behind our territory border.

"Who's there?" I growled as I stepped closer to the eyes.

The eyes immediately disappear. The sound of someone running followed, growing fainter and fainter as the animal ran away.

"Stay here this time, Falcon," Comet said sternly.

Falcon nodded. Then, we left with Cloud Claw and Nebula on a hunting trip. We tracked down a deer herd that was grazing in Spring Haven, a large meadow with different colored flowers blooming everywhere. We hid in some tall grass, watching the herd for any weak, injured, old, or young deer.

Suddenly, a wolf jumped out of the bushes across from us. The deer were thrown into a frenzy. We watched as the wolf separated an old buck from the herd. I jumped out and joined in. The others quickly followed. It didn't take us long to bring him down.

"Hey, you're the wolf from last night," Comet said.

"You're welcome," the green-bellied wolf said snarkily.

"Who are you?" I asked.

'I'm Rose," the wolf replied.

Rose sniffed the air.

"Rabbits," she said as she walked around, trying to pin-point their location.

"Finally," Rose said after a few moments as she started stalking towards the smell.

I picked up the scent as well and followed. Soon, the others followed behind me. It didn't take us long to each catch a rabbit and gobble it up. After that, Rose helped us drag the deer back to camp.

SolarFlare's POV
The hunters came back with a buck, and that green-bellied wolf. I ran up and tackled her.

"Mom! It's ok! This is Rose. She helped us catch this buck, and five rabbits that we already ate," Comet explained.

I looked at Rose who nodded. I sighed and backed off.

"Sorry about that. With all the recent activity, we've been on high alert. I'm SolarFlare," I said.

"Yeah, I've been spying on the Black Moon pack a little. All I know is that their leader is Slayer, then the beta is Night Stalker. The lead hunter is Cougar and the medical wolf is Black Blood. Ravage is the guard," Rose explained.

"That might come in handy sometime. Thanks. We've already had a few encounters with Slayer," I said.

Rose stayed and hung around Falcon. I noticed Frost keeping a close eye on her, as was I. By evening, she and Falcon were best friends.

"Sorry, buddy. I have to go," Rose said.

"Why? Can't you stay?" Falcon whined.

"I'm an explorer. But don't worry, I may be back soon," Rose replied, winking at me.

I smiled and rolled my eyes as I walked up to her.

"You're welcome here any time," I said.

"Thanks. It was fun, but I gotta run!" Rose said as she took off.

Falcon and I laughed. It was nice knowing we had another ally, even if it was just one wolf.
