Only Secret Keepers Have To Explain Themselves

I was so angry. I didn't get it. Lukas and I always shared our secrets and what was going on. We knew everything about each other!...except he didn't know that I was in love with him, but that's completely different than not knowing that the other is sleeping with someone!

Anger and fury clouded my mind and for a moment I felt as if I couldn't see. When I could see, I saw a yellow, busted up 2009 Volkswagon Bug, swerve into my lane. I felt the Bug smush again the front of my Chevy and felt my head as is went, "thwack", against the back of the seat.

I stumbled out of my truck and ran as quick as I could to the driver's side of the Bug. "Are you okay? Are you hurt?", I asked the woman driving.

She nodded slightly, "I think so. Except for the a couple bruises, I'm fine. My car isn't though. Yours seems perfectly alright. The paint looks unscratched from here!"

I smiled, "Don't worry about it. I promise that I'll take care of the damages to your car. I'm pretty sure this was all my fault." She shook her head, smiling, and went to speak, but instead she gasped loudly. I raised an eyebrow. "What? Is everything alright?", I asked. She pointed at my head neck.

I reached back and felt my neck, pulling my hand back I saw the blood covering it. "Oh...", I whispered softly. My vision started to blur and my head felt stuffy, dizzy, cloudy. I took a step towards my truck, determined to make it there and drive to the nearest clinic. I misjudged the distance between the ground and my foot and fell face first to the ground.

The woman ran to my side, "Honey, are you okay? Can you hear me? I'm calling 911 right now. Hold on, sweetie. I promise it's gonna be just fine. Just stay with me now."

I tried to not but I couldn't. My head hurt so bad. I could feel my neck slowly swelling making it almost impossible to move my head. Minutes later, I saw the flashing red and blue lights. Strong, yet gentle arms layed me on a gurney and rolled me into the ambulence.

Once inside the ambulence, the paramedics went to work. One of them, a small, brunette girl, no older than twenty-five, asked me if I had a phone. I managed to get it out of my pocket, but I couldn't hand it straight to her. They wanted me to have limited movement.

"Speed dial number one is a boy named Tucker. Is he your gaurdian?", she asked sweetly, in a calming voice. "Blink once for yes, two for no. I don't want you to move around too much.", she continued.

I blinked once. What's happening? Where's Lukas? I want him to wake me up. This all has to be a bad dream.. Please just be a bad dream..

Stretching and yawning, I rubbed my eyes and looked around. I was still in the hospital. Tucker was asleep in one of those ugly, uncomfortable, plastic, green chairs they put in the rooms for visitors. "Tuck?", I said quietly. My voice was cracking and my throat was on fire. "Tuck?", I said louder.

He bolted awake and leaped up beside the bed, smoothing my hair and gripping my hand tightly in his. "Hev.. You're awake. Good..", he smiled that caring big brother smile.

I checked out the room for a few minutes before asking, "Tuck... Am I going to die?"

His laughter bounced and danced about the room, his small warm and radiant. "No Hev. You aren't going to die. You just have a cut on the back of your scalp. You know head wounds. They bleed easy. The hospital just kept you for observation. The truck is fine by the way. And the lady with the yellow Bug, Marion, I think, said to tell you that her insurance will completely cover her car and that the accident was actually her fault."

I smiled. A nurse came in and unattached me from all the monitoring equipment and gave me my clothes, freshly washed. I changed quickly, just dying to get out of the hospital. I remember when I mum was in there...

"Heaven. I'm going to be fine. It's just some surgery. It's not big deal. They're repairing some valves on my heart. I'm going to be fine. These are great doctors, Hev. I love you, baby girl..."

I shook my head and came back to reality. Tuck said he trusted me enough to drive home and went to fill out some paper work for the hospital. I walk out the doors, smiling at my truck until I saw someone sitting on it's hood.

Why the heck is Lukas sitting on my car? Why is he here? Go away, Lukas! GO AWAY!

He started towards me and I turned around. I walked right back into the hospital. "Tuck? I need your keys.", I said to my unstartled brother. He nodded and we exchanged keys. I walked out the opposite exit and hopped into Tucker's car, speeding home. My mind full of Lukas until I banished all thoughts of him to the deepest, darkest, innermost parts of my mind. The parts where I hardly dare to wander...
