Deepika was getting dressed for the dinner her parents invited Sidharth and his family over for. Downstairs everyone was excitedly waiting for her future groom's family arrival. Natasha and Lilly's family had also flew in from California and Ontario a couple of days ago. Everyone was thrilled to get to sit down with the boy and family while Deepika was really nervous in her bedroom getting ready. She had only seen Sidharth the time he came to drop off something to her mother two days ago. Deepika admitted to herself that besides being really attractive, Sidharth seemed like a really nice person. She did want to know more about him other than his name. And that was the purpose of tonight's dinner. Ujjala and Prakash still stuck with traditional values but they were also liberal concerning some things.
Deepika hung her dupatta over her left shoulder and studied herself in the mirror. She was wearing a semi-formal blue shalwar khameez with her straight hair falling over her shoulders. Her nerves were eating her up alive so she decided she needed to leave her room quickly and head downstairs to divert her mind.
"You look fine as hell." Lilly said eyeing Deepika up and down as she descended the stairs.
"Stop." Deepika rolled her eyes smiling.
"I'm kinda excited to see him again."
"Of course you are." Deepika softly chuckled. She was also a tad bit eager to meeting Sidharth again but there was still that unsettling feeling in her stomach from the moment she had found out about her engagement. Deepika didn't get a chance to chat with Zayn again since that video call since she was very busy herself getting dragged into preparations for the wedding. Every night she would go to bed late, exhausted. Deepika did miss him a lot and that was all she was capable of doing.
Half an hour later the sound of the doorbell chimed throughout the house. One of the servants answered the door and welcomed the Malhotra family. A middle-aged couple stepped into the Padukone residence with Sidharth and his older brother.
Everyone except Deepika, greeted the family as she was asked to appear in front of the family a little bit later. Couple of minutes later Lilly was asked to fetch Deepika, who was nervously waiting in the other family room.
Deepika walked with Lilly to the larger, fancier living room where everyone else was. Seeing so many people in one room was quite overwhelming for her. Especially having the stress of meeting her future in-laws for the first time. Nevertheless, Deepika displayed a warm smile on her lips as she greeted the guests.
"Namaste."
"Namaste beti." Rimmi, Sidhrath's mother held her face and kissed her on the forehead.
Sunil, Sidharth's father put his hand on Deepika's head blessing her.
Deepika and Harshad, Sidharth's brother exchanged a nod and smile acknowledging each other. Deepika's eyes met Sidharth's next and she momentarily froze in place. Sidharth smiled at her warmly and automatically she smiled back.
"Dinner is ready. Why don't we head to the dining room?" Ujjala announced.
Everyone got up from their seats and followed Prakash out of the room and into the other. They all settled in place around the long dining table. Both fathers sat on each end with everyone else occupying the other seats. Deepika and Sidharth sat in the center of the table, across from each other. Lilly sat on her cousin's right side.
Dinner was served and everyone conversed throughout except Deepika and Sidharth. Lilly sometimes shared some words with Deepika but other than that, she spoke to Harshad. Lilly never had an issue with picking up a conversation with somebody. Deepika kept her head low as she ate her food, which was having a hard time to get digested since her stomach was churning with nerves.
