(Calem)
After around an hour of looking around, nothing suspicious turned up at all. I met Gary in the middle of the field, just as the soccer team was entering for practice. He nodded at me and I knew what we had to do, so we moved to the coaching staff with our badges out.
"We would like to ask a few questions please" Gary didn't ask, he said to the coaches. They all looked at each other in silence, which raised my suspicions.
"Well, go ahead then. We have nothing to hide" The oldest one said, which clearly suggested they had something to hide. They could probably tell we was amateurs, but if I had learnt anything from Cilan it was to always stay open minded and think of every possibility, even if it was just some sort of drugs scandal.
"We have had several reports of a possible drugs scandal going on in this area. More specifically, someone has told us that they witnessed the soccer team transporting various amounts of drugs such as marijuana. So we want the truth, what is going on?" Gary got straight to the point and the coaches fell silent again. I could already tell something was up.
"W-We..I uh-" One of them tried to speak, but the old man stepped forward again.
"We haven't been doing anything of the sort, where is your proof for this?" He asked, clearly trying to hide the facts.
"We have been sent video proof of the transportation, in fact I just received the message from my boss, so..." Gary held up his phone with the video playing and I could already see the tiny amounts of sweat forming on their brows.
"What's going on coach?" One of the kids walked up to us, he had an armband on so he was clearly the captain.
"Nothing, just go and wait over by the benches and do your stretches" The old man said, so he was their coach then.
"Are these men hassling you? He hasn't done anything wrong" The boy pleaded. Now it was my turn to step in.
"Until we have finished our questions, I have to ask you to step away please" I stood in front of the kid. He was about half my height and looked up with a scowl, before walking off in frustration. I span on my foot to face the men one more time.
"Ok, we have no choice but to confess. There has been a secret crime syndicate acting in the area" The coach finally admitted. "They threatened to kill us if we didn't help them, so we had no choice but to transport there supplies"
"So, you haven't been selling, buying or using these drugs, they have only been in your possession?" Gary asked, for a final confirmation. There was a firm, serious nod from the coach. His face said it all, he was definitely telling the truth. Gary was the one to ask the questions and be a little rough, so I suppose he was the bad cop. He also didn't have the brains so I had to step in again.
"He is telling the truth" I indicated to the man and then Gary gave me a small nod.
"How can you tell if I am telling the truth?" The man asked, slightly puzzled as to how I knew.
"I can see it in your face. A firm, yet serious nod followed by no emotions. That is the face of a man who doesn't lie when asked a serious question" I explained and then Gary couldn't help but smile.
"Throughout our time in the academy, it was a trait he picked up. Studying psychology has its advantages I suppose"
"So you are both new officers?" The man asked out of interest. We nodded and then he smiled. "It is nice to see some honest lads working for the police nowadays. I am sorry for the trouble we have caused"
"Don't sweat the small stuff. We will be contacting you again to one, have all the drugs taken away and two, issue a written warning regarding this incident, because it is still against the law to have drugs in your possession, under any circumstance. If our boss decides any further punishment is applicable, then you may be fined" Gary explained their options and the coaches seemed please.
