Making my way to the sewers was a regular occurrence for me now. Hopefully today would be the last of my trips down there. The smell is revolting not to mention the dirt that lingers on every piece of clothing I ever wear down there. The best thing I had found was to just get rid of whatever it was I had been wearing after my short visits to her. Which I quickly learned after my first visit down there; the night I had been chasing her.
There were a few reasons as to why I had chased her that night. The first was for my boss as I like to think of him. My job is to report any sightings of the creatures that stalk the night, or anything unusual I come across; this girl was both. Then I would be given orders as what to do with them, usually it was the always the same. Unless he wanted an audience with them himself.
Every day for a month before I had met her, I had walked the streets of the town center and there had been nothing out of the ordinary. Just normal people living there boring day to day lives chatting to one another as they passed by. But then one day I decided to take a walk of the town center during the night, just to clear my head.
Instead of clearing my head one word seemed to find its way through; 'Hope.' I stopped to search where the voice had come from, but saw nothing. Not even footsteps echoed through the air, it was as though it hadn't happened, like it had just been my imagination. Then I heard it again followed by the slightest of movements coming from up above. Looking up I saw what appeared to have been a set of legs dangling from the rooftop of the building next to me.
I made my way over to the building across from the one I had seen the legs and walked around the back making sure that I wouldn't be seen by whoever it was and climbed to the roof. This one was almost the same height as the one I wanted the view of, so I could see the top of it clearly.
There she was.
On the building sat what looked like only a young girl looking up towards the sky as she started to lower her back until finally she was laid down still staring up at the sky, letting the fine rain fall down upon her face. As the wind blew hard I opened my mind and my senses completely towards her, and that's when it hit me it was as though the wind had carried her scent straight to me, only slightly but at that point I knew what she was.
After reporting my night's events he seemed just as intrigued as I did and he ordered me to find out all I could about her. It was a strange request from him but I knew not to question him, I didn't mind this order though as I wanted to find out more for myself. What I found strange about her was that the scent of her didn't register to me when I saw her. It was only after I had used my entire concentration on her that I had smelled it. Which was my second reason for chasing her.
This was why I had let her see me that second night, to see what she would do. I tried to penetrate her mind, see what she was thinking. I was hoping that the fear of seeing me would momentarily distract her and she would forget the hold on her mental walls (as most always did when they saw me,) but that didn't work. She stared at me for a few moments then took off as fast as the wind, I barely saw the direction she had gone and had to follow the scent that I had picked up from her yesterday. She was fast.
The smell grew stronger as I headed further down the street further into the town's center before it seemed to turn off into what seemed like an entrance to a sewer. I paused for a moment thinking of how I would be able to get her to listen to me before she killed me. I decided to go on the offensive and burst into the room, grabbing her as soon as I could. She seemed ready for me, but she wasn't fast enough. This seemed odd considering how fast she had been running compared to her slow reflexes here. It seemed like she hadn't fought as much as I thought she would have in her life but I soon noticed that she was dangerous with anything sharp, especially when I noticed the fork sticking out of my shoulder.
Not long after she had escaped my grasp I had managed to get her pinned beneath me. Her eyes filled with anger as she looked at me. They were nothing like I had ever seen before; completely black in the middle but ringed with the deepest red. In fact she was like nothing I had ever seen; such an innocent face that looked harmless, filled with beauty like no other. Her deep brown hair surrounded her as she laid.
There was nothing normal about this girl and I had to find out why. Why she was so different from any other I had ever met even from myself. I couldn't believe that the whole time I had been back in town I hadn't even sensed her when she must have been so close.
Coming out of my daydream I looked down at my watch noticing that it had been longer than what it usually took to get to her. Then I looked at the surroundings around me and noticed that I had walked a lot further than I should have as I saw the road that led out of Carmen into the next town. I must have been in a deeper day dream than I had thought, considering I didn't even notice that I had gone past the stench of the sewers. Was she going to be mad at me!
