Chapter 38

I decide to head to the park to help me calm down. I go to Starbucks and get a smoothie, then I drive to the park.

When I get there I sit down on the bench and pull out my phone. I text kian, telling him where I was, then I put on my ear buds and start listening to music.

I feel someone sit down next to me and out of habit, I check to see who it is. It's a familiar looking woman with a baby.

"Excuse me, but do I know you? You look familiar." I ask politely.

She looks to be thinking a little bit, then she snaps her fingers and points at me.

"You're the woman from the doctors! Maddie right?" She asks.

"Yea! And you're Alaina?" I ask.

"Yea! And this is my daughter Becky." She tells me.

Excited, I stand up and hug her.

"So, wheres the husband?" She asks me. I frown, thinking about jc. Soon, I feel tears running down my face. "Oh, no no no what happened?" She asks me, sitting me down.

"He hit me today." I sob.

"Oh hellll noo! I'm gonna go to your house and beat the shit out of that son of a bitch! I can't believe people can be such dicks!" She shouts, earning some strange looks. I laugh. "Now theres that laugh u was looking for.

After calming down a little bit, I finally speak up. " Do people call you Ali for short?" I ask her. She nods. "Well, I decided, if its a girl, I'm going to name her  Alaina, after you." I tell her. I look over to see her tearing up.

"That's an honor." She replys. She pulls me into a hug.

After a minute of peaceful silence, she puts her hand on my stomach.

"Maddie?" She says.

"Yes?" I answer.

"Look, my kid doesn't have a father figure. I'm a 19 year old mom. I'm terrified and I'm not sure if how I'm going to do it by myself. I know that you're about my age." I interrupt

"I'm 20." I tell her.

"Well then, that's kinda  embarrassing." She says, making me laugh. "Anyways, I don't you to deal with the bullshit that im going to have to deal with being on my own and having to explain why her daddy isnt here. So I want you to march into that house, find your husband, and talk through it with him. I want your baby to have a daddy." She tells me, bringing tears to my eyes.

"Ali?" I say. She nods. "What happened to the dad?" I ask nicely.

"Well, to be honest, I told him I was pregnant and that very second, he up and left." She explains.

"Oh... I'm sorry to hear that." I say. She shrugs.

"I didn't really like him anyways." She tells me.

"Hey, um I know this is going to sound weird, but will you come to my house with me? I want you to meet someone." I tell her.

"Ok sure." She replies.

Soon, were all in kians car, on our way to the house. We get there and head in.

"KIAN!" I shout as I walk in.

Kian comes running down the stairs. He stops as soon as he sees Ali.

"Damn." You can hear him whisper.

"Kian, can I talk to you real quick?" I ask. He nods. I grab his hand and walk into another room.

"Who the hell is that beautiful girl standing by my door maddie?" He asks.

"That's Ali. I brought her here to meet you." I tell him.

"Why me?"

"Because while we were talking, I saw a little bit if you in her." I say.

"Really?" He says with a smile.

"Yes. But look, she does have a kid, and the dad left. So the kid doesn't have a father figure." I tell him.

"Oh." He says, looking sad.

"Yea. Kian, she made me come back to talk to jc so my baby could have a father and a happy life. I took her here to meet you. I think you should ask her out... I mean you did seem to like her... Look wise and she has a great personality. So I need you to do me a favor." I explain.

"And what is that?" He asks.

"While I tall to jc, you talk to her. See the baby. Alaina and baby Becky." I say.

"Alaina... That's beautiful. I'll do it." He agrees. I smile and hug him.

"Thank you so much! I love you!" I say.

"Love you too!" He replies.

We head back.

Kian grabs Ali's hand, and brings her and the baby to the back yard.

I walk into the living room and see jc, alone, sitting with his head in his hands.

'Ok maddie, you've got this.'
