Ivy
I stared at the calendar that was hanging on the wall. I crossed out today's date as I counted... 7 more months till I can get out of this horrid place.
I have been planning to leave this damn place once I turn 18. The only reason why I'm still here is because I do not want other people to find out that my parents abuse me and also because I don't want to be sent to a foster home. Now, with all the abusing I get from my parents, I had lost faith in humanity and trusted no one.
I sighed and ignored my aching body from yesterday's beating before going to the bathroom to take a shower. I quickly changed into my clothing which consists of a sweatshirt and a pair of jeans because the outfit helps to hide the bruises that I have accumulated throughout these 3 years.
I tip toed my way down to the kitchen. Waking them up will get me killed, seriously. I winced when I heard the floor creak and hurriedly made my way to the kitchen. I quickly took out the ingredients from the fridge, looking out the door making sure that there were not down yet.
I felt like a thief in my own house.
I had cooked scrambled eggs and bacon for my parents. I wasn't allowed to cook for myself but only able to eat if they felt "generous".
Thankfully, I was able to get everything done and got to school before my parents woke up.
My life wasn't always like that... My parents used to love me... That was until my twin sister, Isabelle, died.
Flashback
"Hey, what's wrong? You have been ignoring me the whole day... Mind telling me what I did wrong?" Isabelle asked me. It was a Tuesday afternoon, the sun was glaring down at us as we made our way to the bus stop.
My sister and I had a really close relationship but she was always the 'perfect' girl with good grades and was an all-rounder; While I am the one who always score really bad in tests and is the most awkward person when socialising. I was starting to get sick and tired of it.
I ignored her and walked across the road without looking to check if there were any cars on the road.
"Watch out!" Isabelle screamed. I snapped my head to the left. I raised my hand to block the glaring light reflected of the honking car. It was moving faster, and faster. It was charging right at me. My mind said, move! But I couldn't seem to register any of that as I stood frozen in place.
Everything happened in a blur after that. Isabelle ran towards me and pushed me out of the road and so the car knocked her instead.I started crying and screaming as I ran towards her and held her tightly in my arms.
Flashback ends
After this accident, my parents started to hate me. That was also when the abuse started. They kept emphasizing on the fact that I was the cause of my sister's death. And the worst part is that it actually is my fault. I have no one but myself to blame for this.
But every time I hear them say that, my heart just starts aching and tears just start streaming out from the side of my eyes. Up till this date, I still remember the look she gave me before she was hit; those pleading eyes as though saying, I'm sorry for what I did, please forgive me.
I breathed in deeply as I made my way to the school. Since it was the first day of school, I hope that everything goes well and nothing happens.
But, really, nothing ever goes my way.
