Chris was sleeping, curled up next to Darren. Sydney was in her crib, also asleep. For now.
Sydney started tossing and turning. She woke up and started crying.
"Daddy...," she cried.
No one came immediately, so she tried again.
"Daddy...," she cried.
Still, nothing. She then stood up and started practically screaming.
Chris woke up with a jolt. He thought he heard Sydney crying, but he wasn't sure until now. He climbed out of bed, stumbled out of his room, and into her room.
Sydney saw Chris and reached out towards him.
Chris smiled.
"Hey sweetheart. What's the matter, hm?," he cooed.
"Daddy," she said.
Chris walked over to Sydney and picked her up. He kissed her on the top of the head.
"Are you hungry, sweetie?," he asked.
Chris grabbed Sydney's pacifier and dabbed it around her mouth. She first began to chase it, then grew agitated.
"Alright," Chris cooed.
He gave Sydney her pacifier and rocked her back and forth. He walked downstairs and made a bottle. Chris fed Sydney and she fell back asleep in his arms. He made his way back upstairs, into Sydney's room, and laid her down in her crib. She fussed for a minute, then Chris gave her her pacifier. She quieted down and went to sleep. Chris walked out of the room, closing the door softly behind him. He went back to bed and curled up next to Darren. 'Might as well get as much sleep as I can,' he thought.
