Red stayed on the roof for about 20 minutes. Looking sad the whole time, and constantly running his fingers through his damp, shiny hair. When he eventually came down, he walked straight inside the house, as if dismissing me and Ariana.
"He must think we went inside" She says, stopping the dance she was performing for me.
"Maybe" I smile, to show her everything is alright.
"Where was I? Oh yes!" Ariana does a pirouette in the water, continuing her dance.
"How about we go inside now?" I ask, anxious to ask Red what is bothering him.
"Do you not want to see my dance?"
"No, I do. It's just that I would like to say hello to grandma" I lie.
"But mummy Sheila might be in bed"
"Then I will tell her goodnight"
I let my tail cease, and climb out with my legs.
"I will see your dance tomorrow, ok?" I ask.
"I guess so" Ariana climbs out of the shimmering water and slings her towel over her shoulders. "Promise?"
"I promise, now let's hurry inside before a pixie bites your cute little nose off" I laugh.
She says "I'll race you!", then bolts off towards the door.
"Oh no you do not!" I shout, chasing after her.
She's surprisingly fast for someone of such small stature. She runs very fast, down the winding cobblestone road that leads through the trees. The moonlight tells me that it's very late, so I run faster. I'm slowly beating Ariana, then I see the house door. It's old and it creaks when you open it, with a horseshoe knocker.
"I'm going to win!" I laugh, pushing open the door with a lot of force. When I stumble into the kitchen, I hear a thump. "Ariana?" I shout, turning around, she's on the floor, laughing.
"Your funny!" She says.
"You scared me!" I smile, picking her up, I place her inside and shut the door.
"Fia, come up here a second!" I hear Red shout from his position at the top of the stairs.
"Ok" I smile, running up.
He shows me to my bedroom, and says "could you help me with my bedroll please?" His lopsided grin is too beautiful to resist helping.
"Of course" I smile.
He pulls the roll out of the cupboard, and tells me to grab the end. It barely fits into my tiny room, but we still make it do so. We sit on each end to stop it curling, then we place the blankets and pillows on it.
"Why were you on the roof?" I ask, pulling a sheet over a pillow.
"No reason" he says, blushing.
"Please tell me" I ask, silently thinking: and only tell me.
"Jasmine said that out relationship is over, but I still feel I small sense of betrayal by sleeping in your room" he sighs loudly.
"Why?"
"I don't know" his eyes are shut.
Placing the pillow down, I look at his face.
He is beautiful. Black lashes frame his golden eyes, and peach lips complement his pale complexion. Lovely black hair falls comically around his head, and a few freckles cover his left cheek. Suddenly, I look away, guilty of thinking such selfish thoughts. He is my friend, and he still loves another.
