I dreamt about Red.
I could not help it, as hard as a tried, not that I tried considerably much. I just floated away as I slept, into a dream where I had wings as well as him, and so did River, Clive and Ariana. We all flew around the ocean, waving at passers by.
The next day was very tiring tho. I had to fetch fresh water from the pump six times, running about a mile all together. I sing songs, sit ting on my bed and reading the book 'a jolly sailor bold'.
Then River helped me make breakfast and tea for everyone, which was consumed in around a quarter of the time it took to make. Next, I helped Red brush his wings, taking care over every perfect, grey feather. He gave me his favourite brush to use, because he said it is the most effective. Then Red helped me polish my scales. I saw him take great care cleaning the surface, using the sponge as neatly as he could.
"Why do you need to clean your tail?" He asks, washing the large fin at the bottom.
"Because it get's dirty the same as skin" I reply, washing the fins on my arms.
"Do you really need to wash with all of these products?" He points to the polish and the 'shine'.
"Yes, I do" I say, now washing the fins on my neck "asking that is like asking you if you have to brush your wings with three different brushes".
"That is not the same!" He says, pinching the blue tips of the fin.
"Ouch!" I flinch my tail away, then start to laugh. Red laughs to, resuming his work cleaning.
"You need to stop doing that" I giggle, in the most un-ladylike fashion.
"And you need to stop being so very narcissistic!" Red is laughing so hard he is clutching his stomach.
"I am not vain!" I say, slightly angry, but still giggling.
"Is that so?" He says, flashing his lovely lop-sided grin.
"Yes actually!" I slap him lightly with my tail, beaming.
"Is the fact that you are not vain, the reason I caught you applying makeup in your bedroom mirror?"
"I never..." I'm now blushing a bright pink "my tail is done now". I pull it away, and turn my back to face him.
"Your so mature" Red laughs "you need to loosen your scales once in a while".
"Yes, well, I guess I should. On a high note, can you come to the carnival with me, Clive, and River today?" I ask.
"Sure, I have not been to one in a very long time! Will it have the hook a duck game?"
"There is a large possibility"
"Then I will come pleasantly"
Great, I think, but instead say " that is very nice of you".
He bows, beaming at me whole heartedly, "it's a pleasure! Oh! That reminds me!".
He pulls a small box from his left waist-coat pocket, and hands it to me with a beaming smile on his face. "The things" he smiles. I open the box to see a necklace laying there, with a blue, glass pendant. Inside the pendant was the most beautiful illustration of the ocean that I had ever seen. "Oh my!" I beam "it's wonderful! It's amazing Red!" I hug him hard.
"I made it myself!" I feel him smile, and as I embraced him, slightly slipping as I pull my tail behind me, I fell his body heave a sigh. I wonder what that sigh meant. I heave one as well, to make him question it.
"When did you have time to create such a splendour?" I ask, pulling away from the embrace.
"I made time" Red smiles his lopsided grin, pushing his black hair away from his golden eyes.
I internally slap myself from thinking what I know I was going to start thinking. I would start to think about his perfectly symmetrical face, and the way his eyes glinted in the sun... No! I need to stop thinking these selfish thoughts! I need to stop thinking about the way he holds my hand, and the way one glance from his eyes could...
"Fia? Are you ok?" he is now staring at me intently, and shakes my shoulders.
"Yes, why?" I ask, escaping the daze I was in.
"Fia, your crying". I lift a hand to my cheek to find that he was correct.
"I'm just so happy!" I say, sniffing slightly.
"Awe..." he smiles "Let me place the pendant on you, pull back your hair a little". I do as he asks, pulling my ginger hair away from my neck. I feel him pull the pendant around my head, and I hear it clip shut. When he lets go of the pendant, I feel the welcoming weight of the chain fall around my collar bone.
"Thank you!" I whisper, beaming a bright smile at him.
