“How long do we have?” I asked Lauren as we took a seat on one of the tables in the hospital’s canteen.

“We’re not sure.” She said as she played with the pack of cookies with her hands. “But we don’t have much time, Joanna. For all we know, we could lose him later or tomorrow or the next day.”

I nodded my head, pushing the pack of crisps away, not really wanting to eat although I was hungry.

“But he’s really happy that he got to see you again…" She said, giving me a small smile.

I was about to say something when a familiar tune blasted from her cell phone, which was lying on top of the table.

“Truly, madly, deeply, I am foolishly, completely falling-“

She mumbled a sorry before answering her phone “Hello?”

I felt my heart swell as I heard his voice. It has been a week since I last heard of Harry and I don’t even know if I still wanted to hear anything from him.

I looked up and as I looked at Lauren talking to her phone, I wondered if she knew who I was- if she knew I once dated Harry Styles.

“Sorry about that.” She mumbled after putting her phone back on the table. “It was a friend begging me to go to this band’s concert on Wednesday.”

I looked up, my eyebrows raised “What band?”

“One Direction.” She mumbled and she chuckled at herself.

Why is it that they’re wherever I am? Maybe it was just a coincidence.

“Big fan?” I asked as I sunk deeper on my seat.

“Well, yeah, but I can’t really go especially with Dad’s condition.” She mumbled. So she doesn’t know?

I nodded at her in understanding.

“Do you know them?” She asked, a small smile plastered on her face.

“Well, yeah.” I mumbled before taking a sip from my water bottle. “Who doesn’t?”

“Who’s your favorite?” She asked while she opened her pack of cookies. “Mine would be Louis or Harry. I couldn’t pick between them too. They’re so much alike, I can’t choose.”

“They’re so not alike.” I said, unconsciously. “I mean, Louis doesn’t have curly hair, right?”

Lauren chuckled a little. “You’re right.”

“You have to take some rest.” Lauren said as she turned the engine of her car off. It has been two days since I arrived at New York and I spent those days in the hospital.

The doctors confirmed the fact that we won’t have much time so I made sure to spend the remaining days with my dad, telling him the story of the last five years of my life.

Today, Lauren took me to her flat, telling me that I should have some rest. Although I assured her I was fine, she insisted that I have some sleep.

We walked inside her flat, which was almost like the one Mattie and I shared back in London.

“You can sleep in my bed.” She said as she turned the lights on “I will spend the night at the hospital and if you need anything, just text me, okay?”

I nodded and thanked her.

Before she left, I rummaged through my bad for a certain something. I never took it out of my wallet and I figured I’d give it to Lauren. It was a backstage pass for the boys’ shows which Harry had given me a few years back.
