Shitshitshitshit. What am I gonna do? I panicked as I stared down at the number on my hand.
Just think, (Y/N). My inner Gumball told me.
Okay then, I'll think.
Option one: fudging the answers.
But I know LSP will be able to tell. I was so bad at Biology that I was actually looking forward to this unit as an easy way to get my grade up. If I didn't ace this, I could fail. That was not an option.
Option two: call him.
I mean what's the harm in calling someone? It's just like talking in real life. He obviously wanted me to call. It shouldn't have been this hard. I was pacing my room with his number already dialed into my phone, unable to press call.
I had already been putting this off all day. It was 8:00 and I had just got done with all my other homework, my chores, and lifting my passed out mother into bed.
I erased Marshall's number and pressed Gumball's speed dial.
He answered immediately and laughed at me when I told him my situation.
"Look, (Y/N). Your looking too far into it. All you have to do is dial the number, then press call. Don't even think about what happens after. Otherwise I doubt you'll be able to work up the courage."
"Wow, thanks for the confidence booster."
You could practically hear his grin. "Any time sweetheart." His tone changed to commanding. "Go call him now!"
He hung up. And I followed his advice. Then I came to the realization that I was actually calling him. He could've picked up in the next second.
But he didn't. It rang for what seemed like longer than it should've. He's not gonna answer. I didn't know whether to be disappointed, embarrassed, relieved, or any combination.
But my thoughts were interrupted. "Yyyoooo this is Marshall."
"...hello?" I forced out.
He was silent for a moment.
"Well, well, well if it isn't the princess calling for help."
I wished I could have wiped the lopsided grin that I knew he had off his face.
I sighed. "Can we just get this over with? All I need is ten questions, ten minutes."
He responded immediately "Okay, what's your address?"
He didn't actually think that I'd tell him did he? "That is very private information."
"Okay...what's your very private address?" He replied.
"That doesn't even make sense"
"Look, I'm not doing this over the phone, so it's either I come over to talk in person or you have no assignment."
I gasped. "That's blackmail. And why would it matter if it's in person or not? I'm only gonna do this over the phone."
His reply was matter-of-fact. "Okay, then I'll see you tomorrow I guess, goodnight."
"No! I just...don't want anyone at my house right now. You wouldn't understand. I don't see why your forcing me to do something I don't want to do." I would've been mortaly embarrassed to have him see my ratty house that reeks of drugs and alcohol and tears.
"I'm sorry." His voice was a whisper.
"Huh?" Was my stupid response.
"I'm sorry," He said louder. "That was wrong of me. Would you be okay with coming to my place?"
I paused, surprised at his sudden change in behavior. Going to his house though? That sounded unappealing too.
Actually I do kind of want to get out of the house. My mind told me.
He ended up hanging up after I agreed and texting me an address that seemed near to the school.
Within ten minutes, I was in his driveway. I didn't know how this happened or why I would've agreed, but there was nothing I could do about it now.
His house was one of the tiny house in the neighborhood that were usually packed super close together and meant for people that couldn't afford anything else.
But his on the other hand, was alone. It was technically still on a block, but a lot farther away from the neighbor's house than it should be, with a lot of trees in between. Kind of creepy. I liked it.
I grabbed my backpack and went up to ring the bell, but the door sprang open in front of me.
Oh god, could he really not have put a shirt on?
