"I want one! I want one!" The dragonet shrieked as her sister threw one of the ripe fruits in the air, caught with her teeth and ate in one bite. The dragon laughed gently.
"Alright then, let's get you one." She replied, starting to lift her head back to the tree.
"No!!!" The dragonet wailed. "I want to get it." She pouted at her older sister, who rumbled in amusement.
"Okay, you can get it." She lowered her head, allowing the tiny dragonet to scramble up and grip her horns. The dragonet screamed in delight as she was lifted up to the fruit. She grabbed one tightly in her jaws, pulling it loose with a strong tug. She gave a muffled squeal when some of the juice got squirted on her. As the sister lowered her head, the younger one proceeded to eat her prize, dripping everywhere. When the dragonet got off, the older dragon shook her head, trying to rid her snout of the juice. The dragonet squealed again as she was splattered with juice.
"Feather, stop! You're getting it all over me!" She darted under Feathers front legs, hiding from the fruit splatter.
"You're the one who got it on me!" Feather accused, looking between her front legs at the hiding dragonet. Feather blew a gentle puff of smoke at the dragonet, who squeaked and then started laughing.
"No fair! I can't do smoke, I can't breathe fire!" She whined.
"Of course you can. You roasted that lizard, remember?" Feather soothed as her sister scrambled out from underneath her.
"But that was an accident!" She wailed. "I was mad! And it hurt! It doesn't make your throat hurt to breath fire!" She continued, distressed.
"It'll get easier with time." Feather calmed. Feather wasn't actually sure if she was lying or not. So far it seemed the tiny dragonet had to get very angry to summon her inner flame. When she did though, it came out uncontrolled and seemed to burn the inside of her throat, although only for a very short amount of time. Crimson let out a dejected whine. Feather got an idea. "Hey, let's play a game! Let's play and hide and go seek, just like old times!" Crimson's head perked up immediately. She nodded vigorously.
"I call hider!" She called, pouncing on her sisters face. "Now close your eyes and I'll hide, just like when we practice!" As Feather closed her eyes, Crimson focused hard and watched as her scales slowly melted into the grass under her talons. She crept slowly away as Feather counted down. Feather had taught her how to play this well, how to disappear and how to move silently. Even though now it was a game, Feather claimed that one day it might be important, like other dragons were looking for them. Crimson knew other dragons were bad, her sister had told her so. Other dragons bad. Stay away from other dragons. But Crimson was okay with that. She only needed Feather. Crimson scooted up a tree, wrapping her tail around the branch and digging the spikes into the bark to keep herself steady. She crouched down, bunching her shoulders and digging her claws in, making the amount of complexity needed in the camouflage minimal, although she didn't know that was what she was doing. She just knew it made it easier.
"Ready or not, here I come!" Feather cried, opening her eyes. She peered around the clearing. "Now where did you go?" She crawled slowly, stalking around and unknowingly passing Crimsons tree. Crimson had to hold back a giggle. At the moment, it was a game simply for her sisters amusement. But it also served another purpose for Feather. It was training. This simple game could easily become all to real, her sister thrown into a nightmare. Feather had already decided Crimson was too young to learn to fight yet, but she could learn to hide. After a while of hunting around the clearing, she was about to give up and summon her sister out. That was, until she saw the tiny claw marks scored on a tree. Her sister must have clambered up it. Feather slowly bunched her muscles, and then leaped, landing on the branch above her sister. She swung her head down. "Found you! I win!" Crimson reappeared suddenly.
