So this chapter is totally from Nicolas POV so as to have an explanation on why he was so angry with Maya...

Chapter 7

Nicolas Larkson’s POV:

As soon as July came in my office and told me that Maya would be late, I felt my blood starting to boil in anger. What a nerve! First she accepts to come at my place after the party, although I accept that was not a very bright move of me to invite her, my private rule to never sleep with my employees was there to ensure I didn’t have problems at work after the relationship ended, but I was quiet tipsy that night, very tired from the trip and she was definitely enchanting. Secondly she runs from my house the next morning like a thief without saying a word to me while I was in the shower, as if she wouldn’t have to face me again on Monday. And thirdly and most importantly she figured that our night together could give her the right to come whenever she wished at the office using lame excuses like a flat tire. HA did she think I am stupid or something?

I was not going to go through such a thing again!!! NO NO NO !!!!!!!!!!! I simply refuse to go through it again.

The fact that this was the first time that I had a sexual relationship with an employee of mine did not mean that it was the first time an employee took liberties and made my professional life hell. My previous assistant Mary, which was in Mayas place, had worked for me for almost three years and had managed to be indispensible to me from the first six months. A very bright girl, with whom I communicated perfectly, and had the ideal professional relationship. As an added bonus there was never any physical attraction between us, which made our trips together for business purposes very easy.

The first two years were excellent, until I introduced her to my best friend John and former college roommate. He had recently transferred in our town at that time from California and we were meeting at my office for dinner. I was so happy to see him again after five years. His job involved a lot o traveling which was extremely exciting but also very tiring since never stayed in one place for over eight months. When he had reached my office that day, I was finishing some last minute details on a project with Mary and of course I introduced them. Their instant physical attraction was so obvious and strong I was surprised I couldn’t see the sparks around them. John invited her to come with us to dinner and already threw the appetizers I felt like the third wheel.

Their affair began that night when he offered to accompany her to her apartment and the next morning Mary came to work two hours late. She didn’t even call to inform me she was coming late and I had to attend our first three meetings alone. It was not that I couldn’t handle things without her but it was frustrating for me to go through her notes in a hurry before each meeting to cover the points she was supposed to present. What was more frustrating was the fact that when she came to the office with John and just told me with a goofy grin that she had overslept. She didn’t even apologize for her tardiness. And that was not the only time. At least twice a week she was late. When I tried to hind that her behavior was less professional than usual and that she made my life more difficult she did not say anything. At the same night I got an angry phone call from John, telling me off, because I had apparently embarrassed his girlfriend that couldn’t seem to stop crying from the moment they met that afternoon. He had even made absurd remarks that I mistreated my power as a boss.

I really did not wish to ruin my friendship with John, so even though I knew I was being taken advantage of, I never again said something to Mary about her messy schedule. More and more work was piling for me after Mary started accompanying John to some of his trips and was absent for more than two days at a time. Needless to say that she refused to accompany me from that point on to business trips because she did not want to leave John alone. I was in hell and I could not fire her. In the end she was the one that left the company without even two weeks’ notice when she found out that she was pregnant and John got a new transfer. She decided to go with him and they are planning to get married after the baby is born. I am happy for them even if they got me to a professional impasse a lot of times.

But I REFUSE to go through that AGAIN. I mean if Mary took advantage like that her position as my friend’s girlfriend, imagine what Maya would do as my lover. And what a lover it was!!!! Don’t go there Nicolas I berated myself! She had slept with me once and already she felt that she could come whenever she liked at the office with lame excuses. A small voice in the back of my head kept telling me that she actually had a flat tire but I was to mad to let this pass. Maybe she did have a flat tire but that did not mean that she had it today. She could have had it at any other time and neglected to replace it afterwards. Most people did not rub the same day to replace their tire after a flat one. Yap! According to me that was the only explanation.

“Ya right! Someone is grumpy because he got dumped after a hot night of hot hot hot hot sex” the small voice started chanting in my head.

“Great” I mumbled, “I know her for one and a half days and I am already turning schizophrenic.”

“You are not schizophrenic you fool, it is the voice of your conscious telling you that you are just pissed because she dared to leave your house the morning after you slept together.”

Agh!!!! I hate that little voice was right. My ego was really bruised yesterday morning when I got out of the bathroom only to find her missing. And for the life of me I can’t understand why she left. I mean I did not force her to come with me. She was not only willing but very seductive too. And when they both had a really good time that night! And that was not his ego speaking. She was very vocal on the things she wanted and on how it made her feel when she got them. Bringing him extreme pleasure with both her body and her words. He was naturally astounded to find that she had left while he was taken a shower. He had planned for them to have breakfast together and talk about how they could mix their professional with their personal life. He now called himself ten kinds of fool for thinking that their one night could end up in a relationship. NO he would not resume any kind of sexual relations with her. He would strictly be her boss and nothing else. He did not intent even to be friendly with her like with his other employees. No! She had missed that chance with her behavior yesterday and today.

Now, what took her so long? Did she also lose her keys?
