I dish myself a plate and sit with Eve.
"Hey look who's out wings and all." Paul remarks sitting across from me.
"Too lazy to put my harness back on." I shrug. It's true I was feeling extra sluggish this morning. After all that happens last night I felt like I had been taken for a spin on the looney mobile. The sound of Jimmy's engine is heard and Elsa is the first to get up followed by me.
"Where the hell have you been?" She yells.
"The curfews been lifted."
"What?" I ask approaching both him and Esmeralda.
"Have they caught the killer?" She asks.
"He did." Esmeralda points to Jimmy. "Caught the killer. Saved the kids. Saved everybody. I gotta pee. You try holding it on a bike for five miles." She smiles before leaving.
"Are you okay?" He nods.
"Yeah I'm fine. Just tired is all."
"We had a visitor last night." Elsa says.
"Edward Mordrake."
"He came to you too?" I ask.
He shakes his head. "No but he claimed his freak." We all hear the faint running of engines.
"They've finally come to run us out." Jimmy grabs my hand and we walk to where the crowd is starting to form outside the entrance. I stay in the back not trying to scare anyone. A man steps up.
"Are you Jimmy?" He asks.
"What do you and the rest of this mob want?" Elsa asks.
"We wanted to thank you."
"You saved our son."
"You saved our town. I want to shake your hand." He steps up with his hand out reached. Jimmy grabs it firmly and shakes hand. A little girl gives him a plate of brownies and I laugh. That's adorable. People start stepping up towards the others handing them things. A little boy, not older than 7, walks through the crowd and walks over to me. Mouth agape and eyes wide.
"Wow! Mom look an angel!" He exclaims. I laugh and bend down to his level. "Can I touch them?"
"Of course you can." He takes his small hand hesitant but eager and strokes my wings laughing.
"Soft!" I laugh. I look up and Jimmy is staring at me smiling. I find Dot staring at me too, but not in the same loving manner. I sigh and look back to the boy.
"Come on let's go find your mom." I grab his hand and stand up. We walk through the crowd careful not to bump anyone with my wings.
"Ladies and Gentlemen! We would like to invite you to our grand command performance tonight. Here in our big top. Tickets are available over there at the box office." They clap and head over to buy tickets. I grab Jimmy and pull him to the side when the crowd clears.
"Think you're getting too famous for me." He laughs.
"Don't worry doll, you ain't gonna lose me." He smirks and kisses me.
"You know we're going to have a sold out show tonight right?" He nods.
"Weird isn't it? These people treating us like people."
"It's a feeling I could get used to." I kiss him again. "Alright I need to go talk to Elsa about what she wants me to do tonight." He groans.
"Okay well before you go there's something I want to ask you." He lets out a breath. "Hailey I really like you and you're beautiful and funny. Will you be my girl?" I smile.
