Adequate

I lean back in my chair as we listen to Jimmy sing from the back of the tent. Careful not to be seen by Elsa sitting in the front. He wants to do a song tonight at the show, so she is evaluating him. He's quite good. We haven't spoken about what happened at Dandy's yet and I really don't want to talk about it. The music starts to fade.

"Truthfully? Adequate."

"I'm not changing anything. That's the song, that's how I'm doing it. Tonight mid show number."

Elsa laughs. "Do you honestly believe I would allow you to zap the energy of the audience? Huh? Remember whom you speak."

"I know exactly who I'm talking to!" Sounds like he's telling her now. "A Liar. We don't take orders from liars."

"What's going on here, huh? What is this?"

"The twins, Angel. We know what you did to them."

"They ran off! I told you that!"

"Yeah we heard your story. Maybe it's time to hear theirs."

"What?" We get up and walk to the front. Her eyes set on us angrily.

"You sold them off. Like pets."

"That's not quite how it happened actually." Dot says. I look to her in confusion. What is she doing? "It's true Miss Elsa took us to see Dandy Mott but only because I asked her to."

"But you said tha-"

"You misunderstood. Miss Elsa didn't sell us. She helped us. We wanted to experience the finer things in life. And Elsa was kind enough to make that happen."

"Then why did Hailey leave?" He asks trying to get some truth out.

"Hailey was suffering from a broken heart." Dot explains. Jimmy looks to the floor. I should speak up, but if we get rid of Elsa this show might fall to pieces. "She just needed to get away and when she saw what Elsa was doing for us she decided to join. It was very last minute. But Elsa said we always had a home here if that's what we wanted. So we've decided to come home. If you'll have us."

"Well, of course, my darlings." Elsa smiles. "Anything you want." Jimmy shakes his head and walks away as if in betrayal. I sigh and walk after him. He stomps out of the back of the tent and towards his trailer.

"Jimmy wait!" I call after him and run up in front of him.

"You made me look like a fool in front of everyone."

"I know and I'm sorry, but I didn't know what to say. She has some reason for saying what she said, but I decided to trust her."

"Is it because you're still mad at me?"

"No! No of course not. You saved me from that psychopath. I'm not mad at you anymore." He smiles a bit and steps closer.

"So does that mean you want to be my girl?" I look at my feet.

"I can't."

"Why not?" His tone frustrated.

"Because you hurt me. I just need time."

"Fine. You know you've been yanking me along and I'm starting to feel like you enjoy it."

"What?" I step back.

He nods. "I'm trying Angel. I keep trying to reach you, but it doesn't matter what I do you just won't stop toying with me."

I take an angered breath. "Is that what you think I'm doing? Toying you along because I feel like it? Because I'm bored? No if you haven't noticed I'm going through a lot right now. And every time I look at you I want to jump in your arms and never let go. But I can't. I love you Jimmy." His eyes go wide and teary. "You said you would wait."

He smiles. "I will. I'm sorry Angel. I was just frustrated. I'd wait a lifetime for you." I smile.

"By the way I thought you did amazing in there."

He smirks. "You did huh? Well maybe I'll consider putting you in my show."

"Oh you'll consider? Well you let me know." I smirk and walk away.

I lay down in my bed. Tomorrow will be better.
