Azazel's PoV:
"Because, it means my daughter is finally back."
Lucifer's reply and his gleeful tone told me that he wasn't kidding, not to mention the fact that he's doing his strange version of a happy dance. That didn't mean the news wasn't shocking, no, I'm sure both Murmur and I's mouths were open wide enough for any fly to enter without any problems. I looked back, my mouth still open, and saw Murmur wide-eyed and slowly lowering herself to her pillows. I turned back around and forced my mouth closed, watching Lucifer compose himself and smile genuinely at me, a warm look that I have never seen before enter his eyes.
The fact that Lucifer could have a child isn't what surprised Murmur or I the most; all angels are fertile and can easily have children but, they only do so when they have found their mates. The same applies to fallen angels and Lucifer has had no problem finding women, as they continuously throw themselves at him. But, again they prefer to try and find their soulmate before anything. Which can only mean one thing that could result him having a true daughter...
"You found your soulmate, your other half", Murmur whispered out and she smiled softly. She loves romantic stories and sappy movies, which makes taking her seriously as a Princess of Hell tough sometimes. I stared at Lucifer, watching for the first time in centuries as dozens of emotions flitted through his emerald eyes. But, of all the emotions for him to land on, the last one I expected to be was sadness. His smile slowly faded away and his eyes got this faraway look in them.
"Yeah, I did find her..." he replied softly, sorrow lacing through his tone. Murmur gasped and quickly stood up, a hand covering her mouth.
"Did? That's past tense, Lucif - er, Sir. What happened to her?" she asked quietly, hoping her question wouldn't upset the boss.
He sighed, and the stony look came back into his eyes and I knew the emotionless Lucifer was coming back. "She was taken from me long ago, before any of you were ever here. She was the light in my darkness, and together, we created the most beautiful stars. Our daughter was born shortly before my mate was taken away from me and she became my whole world, my everything. I'd move mountains and cross valleys just to see her smile or hear her laugh. She was the most kind-hearted angel that ever resided in Hell but, cross her or I, and her devil side would appear. My daughter could make the most powerful demons cringe from just her gaze and I was so proud of her. I loved her and her mother so deeply that for a long time, there was no war in Hell. There was instead peace."
Lucifer paused, his eyes once more remembering a time that had clearly long-since past and I could almost swear I saw a tear form in one eye. But, then his aura fluctuated and I could feel his anger once more. His hands clenched at his sides and he let loose a wave of indescribable power that almost knocked Murmur and I off our feet. A howl of pain and anger ripped through his throat as he punched the wall next to him, the whole thing caving in from the force. Murmur walked up behind me and grabbed my arm, quickly repairing her broken wall and we waited in silence for Lucifer to calm down.
He took a deep breath and lowered his arm back to his side, his aura once more going quiet. He stared at me, a hard glint in his eyes that promised the most pain to whoever happened to even look at him funny. I stood soldier straight, eyes meeting his but my head slightly bowed to show him respect. The thing with Lucifer was if you couldn't meet him in the eyes at his worst, then he has no use for weaklings when he is at his best. So, I stared, and silently waited, for orders, for a dismissal, for anything. With that hard look in his eyes that promised revenge and pain, he quietly said, "Then they took her too."
Murmur gasped and escaped from behind me and threw herself at Lucifer, quickly trapping him in a hug. I blinked but stood still as I could nothing if Lucifer did anything to Murmur as technically, she overstepped her boundaries. Lucifer stood stock still and didn't move a muscle, clearly unsure of what to do. It was only when I slightly felt Murmur's aura slightly waver in a threatening manner did Lucifer return the hug, awkwardly at first but, after a few seconds, he was genuinely hugging her. After a minute of this, Murmur let him and quickly stepped back behind me, a small smirk on her face because she knew she was the only one allowed to get away with that.
Lucifer coughed slightly and looked back at us, his face now back into his unreadable mask. For the first time since this conversation began, I spoke up. "Sir, if you don't mind me asking, who exactly took your daughter and mate?" Lucifer slid his eyes towards me and coolly replied, "The archangels did."
I frowned, now feeling angered at this new information about my mate. Wait, you don't even know if she's truly your mate, so cool it, I mentally scolded myself. Lucifer cocked his head to the side slightly and observed me silently before asking, "You believe you are my daughter's soulmate, don't you?" I paused, trying to think of a correct way to agree without angering him further but, finding none, I settled for a stiff nod. He cocked his head to the other side, clearly thinking everything over before breaking out into a smile. No, not a friendly smile or one that let people know that they were testing his patience. It was a bloodthirsty smile, one I knew meant that somewhere, blood would be spilled and forgiveness and mercy would be unheard of. It was a smile that promised war.
"I was hoping someone like you would have been my daughter's mate, you're perfect."
Startled, I looked at Lucifer and almost opened my mouth to ask why but quickly closed it, preferring to stay on his good side then make a mistake and ask questions when I shouldn't. Murmur squeezed my arm slightly and I knew without looking at her that she was grinning ear to ear. Lucifer flicked his eyes to her then back at me before saying to me, "Why do I think you're perfect, you might be wondering. Easy, you are a fierce warrior with a heart that's as true as my daughter's and I don't hate you. In fact, you two fallen here are easily my favorites and I have no problem with either of you telling the others I said that."
I blinked before chuckling softly and smiling at Lucifer; it seems he isn't as upset with this possibility than I thought he was going to be. One thought still tugged at the back of my mind, something that still wasn't clear for me, and this time, I voiced it. "Sir, if your daughter had been taken centuries ago, then why is she only appearing now? Why would the archangels just let her go?"
Lucifer sighed and I could feel his aura once more begin to pulse with that deadly power of his. He again took a few deep breaths and managed to calm himself down before punching Murmur's wall again and, with the look that she giving him now, she would've scolded him for it. Lucifer waved his hand slightly at Murmur, not in a threatening way but, in a I know what you are looking at me for and I'll behave way. He sighed once more and turned around, opening up another portal to somewhere else. I didn't think I was going to get an answer to my questions until he slightly turned back around and, with a sorrow-filled voice, quietly said,"Every few centuries, they take away her memories, powers, and wings and send her down to earth to live a mortal life for 21 years. But, just after her wings come in and her memories return, just when I finally discover where she is, they kill her and return her being back to the Heavens to repeat the process."
With that, Lucifer stepped through the portal and it quickly closed behind him. But,not fast enough that I couldn't hear the pain-filled howl once more and I could feel his aura being more destructive than before. Wherever he was, he was completely destroying everything, which must have been why he left so soon after saying the last part. However, none of that even registered to me until after. I only kept hearing that last part over and over again, my mate, stripped of her memories, powers, and wings, living a mortal life for 21 years, killed off when Lucifer discovers where she is and everything is finally restored to her. The process repeats every few centuries...repeats...every few centuries...
Everything finally clicked and I understood why Lucifer left. Because now I was the one destroying Murmur's room in a blind rage...
