Let's get it started over here, my lovely readers!

Chapter Five: The Choosing

Point of View: Ebony

"Okay, girls. Remember, hold still as it goes around." Artemis says and then looks at me. "Try to find the one who holds a bond for you." I bark, hyped up at the mention. She sets me down and I test out my new little legs. I walk slowly at first and the girls coo at me as I learn how to walk with four legs. I walk over to the left side first. They are gathered in a half-circle. All twenty four of them. Thalia is the first one.

I sniff at her, weaving through her legs and then move onto the next person. I start to get down hearted when I am halfway through and still haven't smelled anything remotely close to whatever I'm seeking. I know I'll know it when I smell it because when I smell it I'll feel it deep within my heart and soul. I go to the next one and look up at her. I know her.

Phoebe.

I sniff at her and then bark excitedly. I feel it. I weave through her legs until she picks me up. She holds me at arm's length and my tail wags as fast as ever as I bark repeatedly until she smiles a little. She brings me to her chest and I paw at her as I lick her face.

"Hey!" Phoebe giggles.

Artemis looks extremely happy as she comes up to us. "One has finally bonded with you, Phoebe. You'll be able to hear him in an hour now."

I bark excitedly and lick Artemis's face before snuggling into Phoebe. "You smell like Phoebe." I tell her.

Artemis raises an eyebrow. "How do you mean?"

"Phoebe smells really nice to me, but none of the others I sniffed smell like her. You smell like her. Phoebe is warm, just like you." I try to explain. "The feeling, it is fluttering inside when I look at you, but it won't go through like it did for Phoebe. Phoebe is pretty, so are you."

Artemis smiles. "Me too? Does anyone else?"

"I didn't smell the other ones. Phoebe was first." I answer and Phoebe is watching between Artemis and I.

"Girls, if he didn't smell you, come here." Artemis calls for the Hunters who all left. "Phoebe, let him smell them and then he'll come back to you."

Phoebe sets me down gently and I circle around her feet before brushing against her legs and walking towards the other girls. I sniff at each and every one of them carefully and then paw at Phoebe's legs when there is nothing. She picks me back up, that's what I wanted.

Artemis smiles. "Okay, I think you might have to wait until you're a wee bit older to bond with me." She pets my head.

I shake my head. "No, no, no. It's right there. You're blocking it. I can tell."

Artemis comes closer and sticks out her hand. "Here, perhaps you should try to unlock it."

I reach out and bump my nose against her hand. Then a bright flash of silver light fills my eyes and Phoebe is holding me in all my black furriness while we stare at Artemis. I bark joyfully. "It worked!"

Phoebe scratches between my ears and it feels so much better when she does it. "Who's your father? And your mother?"

Aroen comes over and brushes against Phoebe's legs. Phoebe pets Aroen. "No mom, then, huh? When are you going to find a mate, you old dog? You've been lonely forever. At least now I have a Wolf Brother."

My father barks and licks her hand before bounding off. I bark at him and he barks in return.

Phoebe returns to scratching between my ears and I enjoy it so much. She walks into the tent where I smell food. I'm hungry. I don't know for what though.

Well, this one was a tiny bit shorter, but for good reason. Hope you enjoyed this one! Until the next chappie, my lovely readers!
