Chapter Nine: The Thalia Phase

Point of View: Phoebe

After I took Ebony back to the campsite, we went into the tent. This is the first time he is going to eat with us as a human and he hasn't touched his food yet.

Why?

Thalia.

He won't stop giving her the death glare and everyone is watching warily.

"Ebony, you should eat your food before it gets cold. Please?" I tell him.

He eats like a civilized human, surprisingly.

"Did I do something wrong?" Thalia finally asks after everyone is done and even while he ate his food, he kept glaring at her.

Ebony does not answer and I sigh. "Did she do anything?"

"She knows. How does she know?" Ebony growls.

"She figured it out when you and Phoebe went into the woods this morning. No one told her." Artemis explains.

"Have you told anyone?" He demands from her.

Thalia pales. "Yes, I informed the girls."

"You're lucky you're a girl and a huntress, or I would rip off your head with my fangs." Ebony snarls.

"Ebony!" I scold. "What is wrong with her knowing?"

"She is just going to ruin everything all over again. She started his misery over two years ago. She killed him first. I cannot seek justice while she is a huntress, but if she ever turns, I'll hunt her down." Ebony spits.

"May I speak with you alone?" Thalia inquires.

"I refuse to leave my Phoebe alone." Ebony says and I smile.

"She can come with you then. May I please speak with you?" Thalia retorts.

Ebony looks at me and I study Thalia. "Alright. Come on, Ebony." I say and the three of us walk out of the tent.

"What do you want?" Ebony questions darkly after we get inside our tent.

"I want to apologize for hurting Percy. I know you do not like me, but I want to amend my mistakes." Thalia tells him.

"He's dead." Ebony snaps.

"Sister, what exactly did you do?" I ask Thalia.

"I told him he wasn't my little brother anymore, spread the rumors about him, gave Annabeth false evidence and convinced her to date Jason instead of Percy, and got him imprisoned inside the camp. After I left, I knew I had went wrong, but I didn't want to face him again. I should have though and I am so sorry, Ebony, for hurting your past life. Will you please forgive me?" Thalia elucidates for me and then turns to Ebony.

"No." Ebony barks. "I hate you, even if you are a huntress."

"Ebony, can you not find it in your heart to forgive her?" I ask softly.

"There is only one way to atone for that." Ebony tells me.

"How?" Thalia implores.

"You have to suffer like I did, or at least suffer as much as I did. You don't have to lose your entire life like me, just lose something very precious to you." Ebony says. "And maybe then, I'll consider forgiving you."

"Are you sure, Ebony?" I inquire.

"That or she can sacrifice something." Ebony shrugs as he smiles at me. "But it has to be something big."

"There is no other way?" I question for reassurance for my sister.

"Well, she would have to spend time with me, but I hate being near her. I only stay in the tent because of you, Phoebe. I only sit at the same table as her because my Phoebe is around. I tolerate her, I'm not her greatest fan." Ebony tells me.

Oh my. This is going to take a while.
